Tour of Sri Ramanasramam - Photos 33 & 34
The first photograph was taken in 1997 across the open space between the dining hall and ashram dispensary, looking back towards the Old Hall. Since this was taken the new dining hall extension has been built behind the photographer; a raised concrete walkway has been added to the front of the steps, stretching the full length of the dining hall, and a polycarbonate canopy has been erected over it to keep it cool - it does precisely the opposite of course, but it is a useful shelter during the rainy season.
The second photograph shows the very small ashram dispensary (hospital) where twice per week a selection of drugs are dispensed to the poor free of charge, and some limited first aid is available. The gardens directly to the left are used to grow herbs for the kitchen.
The steps visible to the right, past the dispensary, lead to the path up to both Skandasramam and Virupaksha cave where Bhagavan spent many years before coming down from Arunachala to live where the ashram is now.
