Tour of Sri Ramanasramam - Photos 7 & 8
This view shows the daily poor-feeding The Ashram feeds 200 Sadhus and beggars at lunchtime every day (This is often sponsored by individual devotees who donate between Rs.400 and Rs.600 for the feeding - the estimated full cost is Rs.600), and most receive breakfast and evening meals at adjacent Ashrams. This is the recommended way of giving to the poor, because it is indiscriminate and frees the devotee from the problem of being incessantly chased by beggars.
The poor-feeding takes place at 11.00am and the Sadhus and beggars begin to gather from 10.00am onwards. Devotees can often be seen giving a few rupees, new cloths, or additional food to the poor as they leave the food queue. The office staff supervises and distributes the food.
The second photo shows the offices. The reception office is the leftmost doorway. The next doorway to the right is the Ashram manager's office and the cashiers desk. Further to the right is the typing and mail room, and finally, the rightmost doorway is the Book-depot shown in a previous photograph. Above the offices is the computer room where the editing and preparation of the ashram publications takes place.
Peacocks are fed outside the offices in the afternoons.
