Ramana Maharshi about Disasters, e.g., earthquakes
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:52:05 AM »
22nd March, 1937

Talk 377.

A middle-aged Andhra visitor: People cite disasters, e.g., earthquakes, famines, etc., to disprove God. How shall we meet their contention?

M.: Wherefrom have they come - those who argue?

D.: They say, “Nature”.

M.: Some call it “Nature” - others “God”.

D.: Are we to keep anything against a rainy day; or to live a precarious life for spiritual attainments?

M.: God looks after everything.

My note: recently cyclone nicknamed "laila" is causing trouble for tamil nadu and particularly andhra pradesh. So we need to pray to divine mother  for stopping all these calamities and save the humanities.

Mother Nature is Mother Sakti.  We do not know what She would
do at what time?  She always gives something, which our scientific
advancements can not cope with.  Another example is the Icelandic
volcano ash-flies.  Even airplanes could not fly, since the ash-flies
spread to 8 kms above the earth!  What can humans do?  We can
do nothing excepting to continue our prayers to Her.  She is the
pancha-kritya paaryana, one who conducts five works like creation,
sustenance, tirodana (veiling), destruction and in between She
also does anugraham, blessing, grace.  We have to only seek the
anugraham (blessing and grace) to ward off the other four.

Even the best scientific gadgets cannot today, predict an earthquake or tsunami.  There is a limit to our advancements in science.  She is beyond that.  But we can pray to her:  Chidagni gunda sampoota...She is the Agni, in our Chaitanyam or Heart.

Arunachala Siva.

Dear srkudai,

Excellent explanation.  Rudram says Agno Vishnu.  There is only
One Principle.  It is called Agni if it means Siva and it is called
Vishnu, all pervading, remaining everywhere.  All personal gods
are only Principles.  Sandhya Vandhana mantram says Asamo
Aditya Brahma.  I and Aditya are the same.  I am Brahman.  Aditya
is also Brahman.  This is Unity.  What Bhagavan Ramana says that
the Unity is ever within you.  In Wakeful, dream and deep sleep
states.  Do not try to see it outside.  Only when you experience It within you, then only everything appears as Brahman.

Sri Arunachala Pancharatnam, Verse 5 also says the same thing.

Arunachala Siva.
