Poem on Water
« on: March 12, 2009, 10:16:57 AM »
Oneday, when G.V. Subbramayya, was in the Hall, Bhagavan Ramana
recited a Tamil poem on water.

"In indigestion, water acts as medicine.  When there is no indigestion, the water serves as a tonic.  Water at the end of
the meal serves as nectar.  But water at the beginning of a
meal, acts as poison."

Bhagavan Himself had an aversion to simulating drinks like
coffee, tea, etc. and always preferred water.  He used to drink
water only at the end of His meals, and also occasionally, when-
ever he felt fatigued, as after a walk on the Hills.

Bhagavan Ramana translated this verse in Telugu also.  G.V.
Subbaramiah noted it down.

Subramanian Garu,

But as known drank coffee and as i have read in Arunachala's Ramana Volume III book he was criticised by few orthodox people for drinking coffee.

But unfortunately they(orthodox people) are not aware that he is far above of all these customs and rituals as prescribed in sastras.

Few criticism he faced from few orthodox people acc to Arunachala's Ramana Volume III book

a) drinking coffee
b) chewing betal nuts
c) present day ramana ashramam is actually a burial ground in the past and hence no vedas etc should be recited except Sri Rudra Sukham.
d) sitting in sofa with mattresses.
e) having not taking proper initiation into sanyasas as prescribed in scriptures.
f) access to untouchables in the ashramam.

Dear srkudai,

Yes.  Bhagavan Ramana took to betel leaves and nuts for indigestion
and discontinued the practice after sometime.  He drank coffee, perhaps
upto His last few months in the body.  It is better to have these
small picadillos than to have lust and sexual indulgence as some
'guru' has recently done.
