Vasanas and pursuit in Self abidance - 18
« on: March 05, 2009, 03:14:28 PM »
Verse 870 of GVK:

Know that the truth of (the experience) "I am perceiving the world"
is that both the world that is perceived as an object and the perceiver
who sees it appear within me, the Atma Swarupa, the true undivided space of consciousness, the flawless true light.

Muruganar adds here:

The world appearance is only a gross hallucination, a manifestation at the appropriate moment of the subtle Vasanas, that from beginningless time have settled as avidya (ignorance).  If a person therefore thinks that he is actually seeing the world, it is a complete mental delusion, like hallucination of absent lovers seen by lustful people.

Verse 893 of GVK:

The mere non perception by the senses of the gross differences of the external world is not by itself the excellence of perfect nirvikalpa samadhi.  Know that the illustrious and prized nirvikalpa samadhi is only the non-arising of the subtle distinctions caused by mental movements in the Heart, owing to the total annihilation of Vasanas.

The perfect Nirvikalpa samadhi is the Sahaja Samadhi state in which
one functions in the world in a normal way, without having any ideas about distinctions or differences in the Heart.

Nirvikalpa literally means 'no differences'.  Bhagavan is saying here that the true nirvikalpa samadhi is not the state in which, oblivious to the world and one's body, one fails to recognize the impressions at all, but the state in which the mental movements which give rise to differences do not appear in the Heart.  When the Vasanas have been annihilated, these distinguishing thoughts no longer arise.
