doubts regarding girivalam
« on: June 17, 2015, 07:58:34 PM »
First of all, thank you graham for accepting me in this forum. I was fortunate to do a girivalam two years ago, but there were a few issues. As per popular advice, I started girivalam at 3.30am , but all the temples enroute were closed during that time. Also, there was a dog which barked and jumped towards us from nowhere :-[ We had to scare it away with a stone, though we didnot harm it, I was shaken by that incident. I have booked my travel to arunachala this september again, please could someone tell me Which are the important points during girivalam that we should stop at? I wanted to go with some groups, but everyone seems to be talking too much and walking too fast...
Also, is there is any preparation one should do before visiting arunachala/bhagawan
Thank you

Dear souparnika,

You can start the giri valam at about 8.30 am. if you can bear the heat of Tiruvannamalai.
If you start at that time, the shrines on the way would be open.

You should walk slowly and avoid talking.  You can however chant within your lips some slokas.

You can drink some cool drink or coffee on the route. No harm.

Arunachala Siva,
