Verse 3:


வென்றி வினையின் மீக்கூர
    வேந்தர் முனைகள் பலமுருக்கிச்
சென்று தும்பைத் துறைமுடித்துச்
    செருவில் வாகைத் திறங்கெழுமி
மன்றல் மாலை மிலைந்தவர்தம்
    வளநா டெல்லாங் கவர்ந்துமுடி
ஒன்றும் ஒழிய அரசர்திரு
    வெல்லாம் உடைய ராயினார்.

Engaging himself increasingly in victorious wars
He moved on and on in the battle fronts where
Kings fought; he wore Tumpai flowers, waged wars
And concluded them in success; he wore the fragrant
Garlands of opposing kings; he but lacked a crown;
He owned all other kingly riches.

Verse  4:



மல்லல் ஞாலம் புரக்கின்றார்
    மணிமா மவுலி புனைவதற்குத்
தில்லை வாழந் தணர்தம்மை
    வேண்ட அவருஞ் செம்பியர்தம்
தொல்லை நீடுங் குலமுதலோர்க்
    கன்றிச் சூட்டோம் முடியென்று
நல்கா ராகிச் சேரலன்தன் மலைநா
    டணைய நண்ணுவார்.


For the ruling of the splendorous earth when he beseeched
The Thillai Brahmins to invest him with the great crown
Set with nine-fold gems, they made answer thus: "We invest
Not with crown any, other than the one
That comes from the hoary Chozha dynasty. "Refusing to crown
Him they left for the Malai Naadu of the Chera.

Verse  5:

ஒருமை யுரிமைத் தில்லைவாழந்
    தணர்கள் தம்மில் ஒருகுடியைப்
பெருமை முடியை யருமைபுரி
    காவல் பேணும் படியிருத்தி
இருமை மரபுந் தூயவர்தாம்
    சேரர் நாட்டில் எய்தியபின்
வரும்ஐ யுறவால் மனந்தளர்ந்து
    மன்று ளாடுங் கழல்பணிவார்.


The Thillai-Brahmins who swerve not from
The committed and privileged way, chose
Among them a family and bade them stay there and guard
The glorious crown with great circumspection;
When the Thillai-Brahmins who hailed from the twofold
Lineage and holy--, reached the Chera's country,
Smitten by doubt, Kootruvanaar bowed before
The ankleted feet of the Lord-Dancer of the Ambalam.

Verse 6:


அற்றை நாளில் இரவின்கண்
    அடியேன் தனக்கு முடியாகப்
பெற்ற பேறு மலர்ப்பாதம்
    பெறவே வேண்டும் எனப்பரவும்
பற்று விடாது துயில்வோர்க்குக்
    கனவிற் பாத மலரளிக்க
உற்ற வருளால் அவைதாங்கி யுலக
    மெல்லாந் தனிப் புரந்தார்.

Unto him who ever prayed: "O Lord, I, Your servitor,
Should be graced with the beatific crown
Of Your flower-feet," during that night, in his dream
The Lord crowned him with His flower-feet; these
He bore by His grace and sole reigned the whole earth.

Verse  7:

அம்பொன் நீடும் அம்பலத்துள்
    ஆரா வமுதத் திருநடஞ்செய்
தம்பி ரானார் புவியின்மகிழ்
    கோயி லெல்லாந் தனித்தனியே
இம்பர் ஞாலங் களிகூர எய்தும்
    பெரும்பூ சனை யியற்றி
உம்பர் மகிழ அரசளித்தே
    யுமையாள் கணவன் அடிசேர்ந்தார்.


He caused the performance of great Pooja in each
And every shrine on earth where abides in joy
The Lord who enacts the insatiable, and nectarean dance
In Tiruvambalam wrought of beauteous gold,
Ruled his realm to the delight of the celestial beings,
And reached the feet of Uma's Consort.

Verse  8:


காதற் பெருமைத் தொண்டின்நிலைக்
    கடல்சூழ் வையங் காத்தளித்துக்
கோதங் ககல முயல்களந்தைக்
    கூற்ற னார்தங் கழல்வணங்கி
நாத மறைதந் தளித்தாரை
    நடைநூற் பாவில் நவின்றேத்தும்
போத மருவிப் பொய்யடிமை
    யில்லாப் புலவர் செயல்புகல்வாம்   .

Poised in the loving glory of servitorship he fostered
And ruled over the lives of the sea-girt earth;
His effort was to do away with flaws; we adore
The ankleted feet of Kootruvanaar of Kalanthai
And proceed to narrate the greatness of those
Divinely-enlightened "Poi Adimai Illaatha Pulavar"
Who hail the Lord that fosters the world.
Granting unto it the Naadaa-incarnate Vedas
In works of metrical hymns.

Verse 9:


தேனும் குழலும் பிழைத்த திரு
    மொழியாள் புலவி தீர்க்க மதி
தானும் பணியும் பகை தீர்க்கும்
    சடையார் தூது தருந்திருநாட்
கூனும் குருடுந் தீர்த்தேவல்
    கொள்வார் குலவு மலர்ப்பாதம்
யானும் பரவித் தீர்க்கின்றே
    னேழு பிறப்பின் முடங்குகூன்.


To dispel the bouderie of Paravaiyaar whose beauteous
Words excel the sweetness of honey and the melody
Of flute, when on a day divine, the Lord whose matted hair
Holds the moon and the snake in amity, plied Himself
As a messenger, Nampi Aaroorar cured the stoop of a hunch-back
And the blindness of a blind man, and bade them serve Him;
I too adore his bright flower-feet and thus do away
With the perverting kink that gets attached to the soul
In all its seven-fold embodiment.

Poyyadimai Illatha Nayanar Puranam:

Verse  1:


செய்யுள்நிகழ் சொல்தெளிவும்
செவ்வியநூல் பலநோக்கும்
மெய்யுணர்வின் பயனிதுவே
எனத்துணிந்து விளங்கியொளிர்
மையணியுங் கண்டத்தார்
மலரடிக்கே ஆளானார்
பொய்யடிமை யில்லாத புலவர்எனப் புகழ்மிக்கார்.


The fruit of the clarity of words constituting poesy
And the import of many a splendorous and grace-abounding work
And the perception of true consciousness
Is indeed this." Thus convinced, they turn into dedicated
Servitors unto the flower-feet of the Lord whose throat is
Adorned with the bright and radiant poison; these indeed
Are Poi Atimai Illaatha Pulavar of surpassing glory.

Verse  2:


பொற்பமைந்த அரவாரும்
    புரிசடையார் தமையல்லால்
சொற்பதங்கள் வாய்திறவாத்
    தொண்டுநெறி தலைநின்ற
பெற்றியினில் மெய்யடிமை
    யுடையாராம் பெரும்புலவர்   
மற்றவர் தம்பெருமையார்   
    அறிந்துரைக்க வல்லார்கள்.

Other than the praise of the Lord of beauteous
Matted hair wreathed with snakes, their lips articulate
Not words of vocables; in this servitorship
They rank first as servitors of Truth;
Great are these poets; who can their glory con?
Who indeed are valiant to speak of them?

Verse 3:


ஆங்கவர்தம் அடியிணைகள்
    தலைமேற்கொண் டவனியெலாம்
தாங்கியவெண் குடைவளவர்
    குலஞ்செய்த தவம்அனையார்
ஓங்கிவளர் திருத்தொண்டின்
    உண்மையுணர் செயல்புரிந்த
பூங்கழலார் புகழ்ச்சோழர்
    திருத்தொண்டு புகல்கின்றாம்.


Wearing their feet on our crown, we proceed to narrate
The divine servitorship of Pukazhcchozhar of beauteous
And victorious anklets, who was like the fruit of tapas
Wrought by the Chozha dynasty which under the white
Parasol, bore the burden of ruling the whole world,
Performing true service fully alive to the nature
Of ever-soaring and sublime and sacred servitorship.

Pukazh Chozha Nayanar Puranam:

Verse  1:


குலகிரியின் கொடுமுடிமேல்
    கொடிவேங்கைக் குறியெழுதி
நிலவுதரு மதிக்குடைக்கீழ்
    நெடுநிலங்காத் தினிதளிக்கும்
மலர்புகழ்வண் தமிழ்ச்சோழர்
    வளநாட்டு மாமூதூர்
உலகில்வளர் அணிக்கெல்லாம்
    உள்ளுறையூ ராம்உறையூர்.


The glorious and generous Chozha Tamizh monarchs
Imprinted on the crest of the Himavant their signum
Of the tiger-banner; abiding under the white-rayed
And moon-like parasol, they sweetly fostered the vast earth;
Uraiyoor, the great hoary city--verily the abode of all
The multitudinous pulchritudes of the world--,
Was of the Chozha realm.

Verse  2:



அளவில்பெரும் புகழ்நகரம்
    அதனில்அணி மணிவிளக்கும்
இளவெயிலின் சுடர்ப்படலை
    இரவொழிய எறிப்பனவாய்க்
கிளரொளிசேர் நெடுவானப்
    பேர்யாற்றுக் கொடிகெழுவும்
வளரொளிமா ளிகைநிரைகள்
    மருங்குடைய மறுகெல்லாம்.



In that beautiful city of great and endless glory
The pencil of rays like unto those of the young sun's,
Issuing from beautiful gems chased away the murk
Of night;  at the sides of the streets stood rows
Of effulgent mansions from whose tops flags wafted,
Touching the celestial river.

Verse  3:


நாகதலத் தும்பிலத்தும்
    நானிலத்தும் நலஞ்சிறந்த
போகமனைத் தினுக்குறுப்பாம்
    பொருவிறந்த வளத்தினவாய்
மாகம்நிறைந் திடமலிந்த
    வரம்பில்பல பொருள்பிறங்கும்
ஆகரமொத் துளஅளவில்
    ஆவணவீ திகளெல்லாம்.   

The peerless and bountiful realm was the abode
Of all Bhogas of well-being of not only this world
But also the worlds above and beneath it;
It was also rich in many goods piled up sky-high
In its endless sea-like commercial streets.

Verse 4:


பார்நனைய மதம்பொழிந்து
    பனிவிசும்பு கொளமுழங்கும்
போர்முகவெங் கறையடியும்
    புடையினம்என் றடையவரும்
சோர்மழையின் விடுமதத்துச்
    சுடரும்நெடு மின்னோடைக்
கார்முகிலும் பலதெரியா
    களிற்றுநிரைக் களமெல்லாம்.

From the fierce and martial elephants poured down
The musty ichor which drenched the earth;
Their trumpeting rumbled through the cool sky;
Indistinguishable were the clouds that came near
Unto them where they were tethered in rows,
Looking like similar herds and endowed with the ichor
Of dripping rain and the flashy
Forehead-vestment of lightning.

Verse  5:


படுமணியும் பரிச்செருக்கும்
    ஒலிகிளரப் பயில்புரவி
நெடுநிரைமுன் புல்லுண்வாய்
    நீர்த்தரங்க நுரைநிவப்ப
விடுசுடர்மெய் யுறையடுக்கல்
    முகில்படிய விளங்குதலால்
தொடுகடல்கள் அனையபல
    துரங்கசா லைகளெல்லாம்.

Their bells tinkled and they neighed aloud pridefully;
The foam at the mouths of the rows of grass-eating
And radiant steeds was like unto the foam
At the tip of the (serried) waves; their bright saddles
Were like clouds resting on hills; their stables
Were vast as the (excavated) sea.
