The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Navukkarasar, on Siva,
in the temple of Tiruvarur.  This is in Saiva Canon 4.019.

This temple referred to in this Padigam is Turuvarur main temple, called Poonkovil.  It is in Tiruvarur town in Tiruvarur
district.  One can go by bus from the main town or from Thanjavur or Mayiladuthurai or Karaikkal.

Nami Nandhi Adigal, another Saiva Saint, lighted the lamps in this temple with water.  This is also the
birth place of Sundaramurti Swamigal.

Siva - PuRRitam Kondar.

Uma - Alliyam Poonkodhai.

Holy tree - Bhilva tree.

Holy tirtham - Kamalalayam, a tank.

Siva, who has a weapon of a trident who has beautiful shoulders like the hills on which, saffron is smeared which is
like the streams descending down, flowing in all directions. He has as half the body, the lady goddess,m  who speaks
soft words which are as  sweet as milk. He is in Tiruvarur, where I obtained vision of the God seated under the
beautiful banyan tree.

The following verse and the Padigam, has been composed and sung by Tiru Navuklkarasar, on Siva,
in the temple of Tiruvaru, Poon Kovil.  This is in 4.020 of Saiva Canon:

காண்டலேகருத் தாய்நினைந்திருந்

Our Father, God, who is in Tiruvarur,(Poon Kovil), where the rising flags which are hoisted on the tall mansions
of many storeys touch the crescent in the sky and move about!  Having the sole aim of obtaining vision of you,
I was meditating on you. You entered into my mind.  I definitely adorned my head with your Feet wearing anklets
If you go out I swear on your honor.

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Navukkarasar, on Siva,
in the temple of Tiruvarur, Poon Kovil.  This is in Saiva Canon 4.021.

The location of the temple, the names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the holy tirtham -- all these details
have been given in the first Padigam on Tiruvarur, Poon Kovil, see elsewhere in this serial post.

Siva's star is Ardra.  Here the saint sings the glory of Ardra day and also the pujas and procession of Siva,
from the temple on Ardra Days.  This Padigam is called therefore, Tiruvarur, Tiru Ardra Padigam.

(Muruganar has also composed a Padigam titled Punarvasu VaNNam, the star day of Sri Bhagavan's birth.
He was born on Punarvasu star day of the month of Dhanur, Margazhi.)

I propose to give all the ten verses of this Padigam, along with meanings in English.

Verse 1 of Tiruvarur, Tiru Ardra Paidgam:

முத்து விதான மணிப்பொற் கவரி முறையாலே
பத்தர்க ளோடு பாவையர் சூழப் பலிப்பின்னே
வித்தகக் கோல வெண்டலை மாலை விரதிகள்
அத்தன் ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அதுவண்ணம்.

A canopy with pearls, beautiful yak tail which has a handle of gold, following in an order.  Pious devotees and
young ladies surround the deity.  Mahavratis*,  who wear garlands of white skulls of beautiful perfection, are
following the offerings to God. That is the beauty of the festival of Ardra day of Siva, our Father.

*  Those who do great tapas, wearing white skulls.

Verse 2 of Tiruvarur Tiru Ardra Padigam:  Saiva Canon 4.021:

நணியார் சேயார் நல்லார் தீயார் நாடோ றும்
பிணிதான் தீரும் என்று பிறங்கிக் கிடப்பாரும்
மணியே பொன்னே மைந்தா மணாளா என்பார்கட்
கணியான் ஆரூர் ஆதிரை நாளால் அதுவண்ணம்.

Those who live very near Tiruvarur,  and at a distance, and worship Siva, are good people. Those who do not worship
Him are bad people. Those who do not worship Siva in Tiruvarur, though they live very near that place, are far away
from God.  Though they are good people in other respects,  are in this respect bad people. There are people who
lie down densely crowded, thinking that their diseases will be removed. That is the beauty of the festival of Ardra day
of Siva,  who is near at hand to those who praise Him as Ruby, Gold, strong youth, bridegroom!

Arunachala Siva.

In every street, white flags and canopies adorn them, emitting rays. The brilliance of the big lustrous gems are conspicuous.  Everywhere superior coral garlands and garlands of pearl are hung.  That is the beauty of Siva's
festival of Ardra day in Tiruvarur.

Speaking about the attributes of Siva, devotees, joining together and singing His praises, being at variance with
each other. will prattle like mad people. The celestial beings will descend to the earth and worship daily paying
obeisance to Him.  That is the beauty of the God in Tiruvarur, on the festival of Ardra day.

The devotees will frighten, sobbing, opening the eyes and sounding forth, forgetting their good qualities and acts.
Being unable to stand firm on account of ecstasy,  they will hit against something with their heads. Our Master, Siva, is the original Head of our family, our Father, for those who praise Him as mentioned above.  That is the beauty of the festival
on Ardra star, celebrated in Tiruvarur,  belonging to our Father, the God.

Ladies who have lips like the red coral will meditate upon the lotus red feet of the Lord. The ladies of marriageable

Young people are going in the vanguard, bowing their heads.  The celestial damsels of the heaven who have shoulders
like bamboos of perfect shape, are following in the rear.   The devotees who sing smearing the different kinds of sacred ash, to surround on all sides.  (The different kinds of sacred ash are Karpam, Anukaṟpam, Upakaṟpam and Akaṟpam.
The last one is prohibited from smearing.).  That is the beauty of the festival of Ardra day, in Tiruvarur, of the deity.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Navukkarasar, on Siva,
in the temple of Koil, another name for Chidambaram. This comes in Saiva Canon 4.022:

The temple in Chidambaram, which is in Cuddalore district, is well connected by bus from various towns like Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Pondicherry and Tiruvannamalai.

Siva - Tiru Moolanathar, Ananda Natarajar,

Uma - Umai Parvathi, Sivakami Ammai.

Holy tree - Thillai tree, Karpaga Tree.

Holy tirtham - Sivaganga tirtham,  a tank.

Sage Vyagrapada prayed to Siva here.  He was blessed with tiger's legs, with which he climbed a tree
and had the darshan of Nataraja.  One saint by name ILaimaiyaakinar and Sage Upamanyu, also prayed here.
Umapati Sivam, a famous Saiva Saint also prayed here.  He was earlier a priest (dikshitar) in the temple.

Flourishing in Chitrambalam,  (lit. Hall of Consciousness, Chidambaram), in Tillai forest, which has groves on which
clouds rest and from which the fragrance spreads,  dancing with fire which makes a sound so as to drive the darkness,
He is there to stay permanently. with the expanse of the collection of the red matted locks.  one can see the God,
who has a neck in which there is poison, and in whose head the crescent moon sheds its mild light.
