The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar, on Siva,
in the temple of Tiru Veezhimizhalai. This is in 3.119 of Saiva Canon.

The location of the temple, the names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the holy tirtham -- all these details
have been given in the first Padigam on Tiru Veezhi Mizhalai, see elsewhere in this serial post.

The dress of Siva, is the skin of a spotted tiger. His ornaments are cobras. The sandal paste and fine powder of  holy
ashes, He smears.  The fire in the firebrand is the light, The ghosts are the audience that witness the dance.
He dances to decrease the fury of Kali. When the interior of the black tortoise living in mire appears like the moon
in the sky.  The Karmas will perish if one say the name of the Lord in Veezhimizhalai, where in the extensive gardens
the fragrant screw-pines with thorns blossom like the elephants tusks.

Dear atmavichar100,

I was reading Deivathin Kural, Volume 7 in Tamizh of Kanchi Mahaperiyava last night.

Mahaperiyava gives some interesting information about Tiruvalanchuzhi.  There was one rishi by name EaraNdkar,
the name EraNdakam means  castor seeds.  The Chozha king prayed to Sage Agasthya and brought the Kaveri river to Tamizh Nadu. The river started from Kodagu and immediately after running for some hundred miles merged into
Arabian Sea! (Lobhamudra is the wife of Sage Agasthya and she only came as Kaveri river).  The Sage then asked
Kaveri to run into Chozha Kingdom.  She agreed and then ran to Salem, Tiruchirapalli and then into Thanjavur
districts, and Kumbakonam. In Kumbakonam, in Tiru Valanchuzhi, there was a huge pit. (chuzhi means pit. Sri
Bhagavan's birth place is also Tiruchuzhi, where there was a huge pit and the deluge floods ran into it.)

When in Tiruvalanchuzhi, the Kaveri waters ran into the pit, the King requested EraNdakar to do something.
The saint then prayed to Kaveri and then as a sacrifice dived into the pit.  The river Kaveri then accepted the
sacrifice and then came out of the pit and ran up to Poompukar before merging into the sea. She also graced
the Sage EraNdakar by giving him back his life., After Kaveri came out of the pit, she did pradakshina
to Vinayaka and moved further.  Hence Vinayaka is called Tiru Valanchuzhi Vinayaka. He is also called
Dakshinavartha Vinayaka, the one whose trunk is twisted to the right.

Kaveri went up to Tiruvalmpuram and she also did a pradakshina of Vinayaka there. This Tiruvalampuram
Vinayaka is also having His trunk twisted to the right!  He is called Valampuri Vinayaka. He is also called
Svetha Vinayakar. Svetha means White. He is made of marble and is white in form. In pure Tamizh, He is called
veLLai VAraNap Pilliyar.  The river Kaveri then moved to a few more miles and then merged into the sea,Bay of Bengal.

In Tirukkadaiyur (Abhirami), temple, there is one KaLLa vAraNap Pillaiyar, which means the elephant (god) who drove
out the forest elephants which were thieving in the temple (kaLLa) and took away the coconuts and plantains!

Kanchi Mahaperiyava is all knowing Jnani.  He was well versed in Sthala Puranas, Tamizh songs of Tevaram,
Tiruvachakam, Divya Prabhandham,  and Sanskrit verses.

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jjnana Sambandhar, on Siva,
in the temple of Tiru Aalavaai, another name for Madurai. This is in 3.120 of Saiva Canon.

The lady having the name Mangaiayarkkarasi, the beautiful daughter of King Chozha VaLavan, a lady of great honor wearing on her hands bangles having lines, who is as beautiful as the goddess of wealth seated in a lotus.
She is the great queen of Pandyan. To praise daily Siva doing service to Him, Siva. who has a form like the bright fire,
the Master of all living beings is also the Master of the Bhootas, which are His army. He has revealed the four Vedas,
and expounding their meanings, He lives in Aalavaai with His consort Uma, the lady with beautiful eyes like kayal fish.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar on Siva,
in the temple of Tirup Panthanai Nallur.  This is in 3.121 of Saiva Canon.

This temple is in Kumbakonam taluk, Thanjavur district. One can go by bus from Kumbakonam or Thanjavur.

Siva - Pasupatheeswarar.

Uma - Kaambanna thOLi ammai, one who has shoulders like tender stem of the flowers.

Holy tree - Konrai tree

Holy tirtham - Pasu tirtham, a tank.

The people of this world praise walking from sleep saying such things as "Siva kicked the god of death and reduced to"dust the forts."` He is in the forest; He is in the air.  The temple where He dwells with great attachment,  is like the pincers.
He does not let down His devotees, He is not deficient in any thing. He is Pasupatheeswara,  who is in Panthanai Nallur,
He is perhaps the cruel person who dances wearing a loin-cloth.

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar on Siva,
in the temple of Omamaam Puliyur.  This is in 3.122 of Saiva Canon.

The temple is located in Kattu Mannar Kudi taluk, Cuddalore district. One can go by bus from Cuddalore or
Chidambaram.

The Rishi Vyagrapathar, with tiger's (puli) feet, prayed to Siva here.

Siva - Thuyaram theertha Nathar, one who removes the miseries of devotees.

Uma - Poonkodi Nayaki, one who looks like flower creeper.

Holy tree - Ilanthai tree.

Holy tirtham - Gouri tirtham, a tank.

The deity who has matted hair locks coiled into the form of a crown and who desired to have as half of His form, Uma,
the lady goddess,  as slender as a beautiful creeper. If one asks about the place where the God who is different from
the world is, He and dances in the dense darkness. Picking the fertile flowers in the garden where honey spreads its fragrance, crowded beetles hum like music,  it is the northern temple of the God who stays in Omamaam Puliyur, which has increasing fame.

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar on Siva,
in the temple of Tiru Nallur. This is in 3.125 of Saiva Canon.

The temple is also called Tiru Nallurp Perumanam.  This is in Sirkazhi taluk, Nagappattinam district.
One can go by bus from Sirkahzi or Nagappattinam or Thanjavur or Mayiladuthurai.

This place is also called AachaaL Puram.

Siva - Sivalokath Thyagar.

Uma - Tiru Venneetru Umai Ammai.

Holy tree - Mango tree.

Holy tirtham - Panchakashra tirtham, a tank.

The One who adorns Himself with the garlands of verses which have subtle meaning like fragrance, Lord Siva,
who is in Nallurp Perumanam, where servants of God gather together! I do not desire the marriage during which the bridegroom has to place the right foot of the bride on the grinding-stone and other ceremonies. Have not the songs
which I sang of Kazhumalam,  Sirkazhi, and many other shrines, come true?

This is the place where Tiru Jnana Sambandhar got married, though he says that he did not want a marriage.
After wedding, he and the bride went to the temple of Tiru Nallur Perumanam and they merged into the light
of Siva in the sanctum.  Hence the place /temple is called Tiru Nallur Perumanam, (the great wedding.).  Not
only the couple,  but the devotees who went with him, the kitchen assistants, the priests, even the drummers
and pipers merged in the light of Siva in the temple!  This is the only case of Group Salvation in the Saiva
religion!

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar on Siva,
in the temple of Tiruvidaivaai.  This Padigam has been found out only in 1917, hence it is kept after
the Padigam on the saint's marriage and his merger with Siva along with all others, which was considered
as the last Padigam of Tiru Jnana Sambandhar.  This is in 3.127 of Saiva Canon.

The temple is in Thanjavur district, near Kootha Nallur. One can go by  bus from Thanjavur.

Siva - Idaivaai Nathar.

Uma - Abhirami.

Holy tree - Bhilva tree.

Holy tirtham - Punya Koti tirtham, a tank.

(This decade was found inscribed on the temple wall; it was copied by the department of epigraphy in 1917;
the name of the raga is not found. This shrine is now known as Tiruvidai Vaachai.  This shrine is mentioned by
Iyadikal Kadvar Kon Nayanar, in his Kshetra Tiru Venba,  Vidaivaai,)

Where the male bee which has dots and lines embraces its beautiful female bee and sleeps in the fragrant flower.
is Vidaivaai. People say that it is the place where our Father who holds a young deer in His hand and who is not
separated from Uma, the beautiful lady, dwells.

With this the Siva Canons 1,2, and 3 of Tiru Jnana Sambandhar, are completed.

We are coming to Siva Canon 4 of Tiru Navukkarasar. Siva Canons 4,5, and 6 are by Tiru Navukkarasar.
The first Padigam was sung by the saint, when he came back to Saivism from Jaina religion.  He had a severe
colic pain and he came to Siva in Tiruvadigai, with his sister Tilakavathi, adorning vibhuti and sang this
Padigam to request Siva for His grace,  to remove his colic pain.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Navukakrasar, in Tiruvadigai.
This is in 4.001 of Siva Canon.

This temple is called Tiruvadigai - Veerasthanam, a temple on the cremation ground.

One can go by bus from  Cuddlore or Panruti.

Siva - Veerasthaneswarar.

Uma - Tripura Sundari.

Holy tree - Sarak Konrai.

Holy tirtham - Kedila Nathi, a small river; Alagangai and Chakra tirtham, two tanks.

The Father dwells in Adigai - Veerasthanam, on the northern bank of Kedilam river.  You do not cure my disease
which is giving me pain like the God of death.  I do not know that I did many cruel acts intentionally to get this disease.
O Siva, who has a bull! I bow to Your Feet only, always night and day without leaving them.  Being invisible.
inside my belly, to disable me by binding together with the intestines.  I who am your slave could not bear the pain.
You must admit me as your slave removing the disease.

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung in Tiruvadigai - Veerasthanam, like the
first Padigam.  This is in 4.002 of Saiva Canon.

The location of the temple, the names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the holy tirtham - all these details
have already been given in the previous post.

This Padigam was sung when Jains under the king's orders sent an elephant to kill the saint by stamping on
his body.

Sacred ash which is considered to be equal to the paste of sandal-wood, the moon of white rays which He wears as
the chief gem in the crest, a dress made of colorful skin, the color of coral, which is increasing, a superior bull which
can fight and also afford protection, the cobra which covers the chest, with these, the Lord is shining. We are the kindred
of Siva, who stays near the river, Kedilam, which has strong and good water. We need not be afraid of anything even in a small measure and there is nothing to be afraid of me.

Arunachala Siva.

Singing Him wreathed in crescent moon cute, with Hill-man's daughter, entering the precincts, fetching loads of flowers
and water, with no trace of wear and tear none, reaching AyiaaRu, I found elephants with their dear young females fast
in love.  I found His holy feet little found or known.

in the temple of Tiruvarur, Araneri.  This is in 4.004 of Saiva Canon.

The temple is in Tiruvarur taluk, Tiruvarur district. One can go by bus from Tiruvarur.

There are three temples in Truvarur. The first is called Tiruvarur - Araneri. The second one is Tiruvarur, Poon Kovil.
The third one is called Tiruvarur Paravaiyul Mandali.  The first and second have been visited by Tiru
Navukkarasar and he had composed and sung songs for these.  The third one belonged to Paravai,
wife of Sundaramurthi only.  This temple has been visited and he has composed and sung on this third one also.

who has the form in which the lady goddess, young with breasts which are close to each other, is united
with Him, who has a white and young crescent moon, that moves in the sky, who has a shining trident.
and who tied a dancing young cobra in the waist,  is the God, our father, who dwells with pleasure in Arur.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed by Tiru Navukkarsar, on Siva, in the temple
of Tiruvarur, Poon Kovil. This is in 4.005 of Saiva Canon.

The temple is in Tiruvarur. One can go to Tiruvarur, and then go to this temple.  Tiruvarur is in
Tiruvarur district.  One can go by bus from Mayiladuthurai or Nagappattinam or Thanjavur.

Siva - PuRRitam Kondar.

Uma -  Alliyam Poon Kodhai.

Holy tree - Bhilva tree.

He is adorning the body with holy ashes.  Without praying to His holy feet,  I thought I could attain liberation,
by wearing the mat dress, as a Jain.  Now I have left it and came to you, to Arur, with flower gardens where the
koels and peacocks sing, and with my folded hands  I pray to you.  I was taking unripe fruits without preferring
ripe fruits, I was like wretched thief.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Navukkarasar, on Siva,
in the temple of Tiruk Kazhippaalai.  This is in 4.006 of Saiva Canon.

This temple is in Chidambaram, Annamalai Nagar, in Cuddalore district.  One can go by bus from
Cuddalore or Mayliaduthurai to reach the temple.

Siva - Paal VaNNa Nathar.

Uma - Veda Nayaki.

Holy tree - Bhilva tree.

Holy tirtham - Kollidam river.

Earlier this temple was on the bank of Kollidam river and this was flooded.  Later this temple was built
and the idols were brought and installed here.

The verses are as if the saint is describing his daughter's plight, who is love torn with love for Siva.

Opening her lips which are like beautiful coral, my daughter says He bestows grace upon celestial beings also.
She says that He has smeared shining white ash which is suited to the strong shoulders resembling in color red coral,
Joining with the lady wearing on the waist a jeweled girdle of strands made of coral, and who is like a swan by Her gait.
He is farther than the farthest things we conceive of.  Did she see the god who is Kazhippaalai,  where the sea scatters
the heavy coral?
