Context and Meaning:

This place and temple is in Chozha country on the southern bank of Kaveri.  Nowadays it is called Alanthurai or Pasupathy
Kovil which is a railway station on the train route between Thanjavur and Kumbakonam.  When devas churned the milky ocean,
Siva took the poison in this place.  Brahma prayed to Siva here.

Siva:  Pasupatheeswarar.

Uma:  Alliyankothai.

Temple Tree:  The banyan tree.

Holy Waters:  Kaveri.

He is like the dense milk.  He kicked Yama, god of death, with His left leg.   The brahmins who pray and chant
Vedas are like Brahma the god who composed Vedas. Those who pray to Siva here, in Alanthurai will have their
ill effects of karma totally removed by Siva.

Context and Meaning:

This place is in Chozha country, on the Southern banks of Kaveri.  Idumban prayed to Siva here. His sister Idumbai
married  Bheema one of the five Pandavas in Mahabharata.  Hence it is called Idumbaa vanam. This is a place for
doing rituals for forefathers.

Siva: Saruguna Nathar.

Uma: Mangala Nayaki.

Temple Tree: Bhilwa.

Holy waters:  Brahma tirtham, Samooka Pushkarani.

The young men along with young ladies pray and do pujas here for Siva, with fragrant flowers.  In this place of demons,
those who pray to Siva will have their wealth increased like Bengal ocean.  This is the place of Idumban the angry demon, with teeth like swords.  The tapasvins pray to Siva here and attain moksha.

Context and Meaning:

Tiruveezhimizhalai is on the southern bank of Kaveri.  This is a place where Jnana Sambandhar and Tiru Navukkarasar got
each one gold coin each day, with which they fed the famine stricken population (by selling gold coin and buying rice etc.,).
Mahavishnu got his chakra (disc) weapon, from Siva.  Mahavishnu prayed to Siva with 1000 lotus flowers. When one
flower was short, he placed his eye in lieu of lotus flower and completed pujas. Siva got pleased and gave him the disc weapon.

Siva:  Veezhi azhagar.

Uma: Sundara kuchambika.

Holy tree:Veezhi plant, (flowers of this plant are like lotus!)

Holy Waters: Vishnu tirtham.

When the mount manthara was used a churning rod, and Vasuki a rope, the hala hala poison came out.  Siva took
it and swallowed it and retained in His throat. He is having the bull (Rishaba) as His vehicle.  The priests here have learnt
the Vedas in a proper manner and they chant before Siva and do pujas. This is the place called Tiru Veezhimiizhalai.

The deva Kubera also prayed here.

Context and Meaning:

TirumaRaikkadu (Vedaranyam) is on the Southern banks of Kaveri river. Vedas prayed here.  When a rat came to the
drink the oil from the lamp, made the lamp to burn brightly.  This small deed of the rat pleased Siva and the rat
was born as King Mahabali.  Agasthyar, Viswamitrar, Vasishtar, Naradar, Gouthamar, Brahma and Sri Rama prayed
here.

For Sage Agasthyar, Siva and Uma showed their marriage since he could not attend the same in Himalayas. This
is also one of the seven places where Siva showed His dance. (Sapta Vitanga Sthalam)

After Vedas prayed to Siva the doors were closed.  The temple could not be opened. When Tirunavukarasar and Jnana
Sambandhar went to the temple, the former sang to open the doors and the latter sang to close the doors.

Siva - Vedaranyeswarar.

Uma: Yazhai pazhittha mozhi ammai.  (the one who speaks in a tone sweeter than yazh, i.e a form of old violin.

Holy Tree: Vanni tree.

Holy Waters:  Manikaranika ( a tank) and the sea.

He is having in His crown, serpents, the feather of stork, crescent moon etc., He is wearing the tiger's skin as His
waist cloth. He is like karpaga tree, conferring all grace for happy worldly life and also the moksha.  He is staying
in TirumaRaikkaadu temple.

Arunachala Siva.
