enemies, He wanders to receive the alms that is put into the begging bowl.

The following verse has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar on Siva in the temple of
Tiru VaaLkoLi Puthur.  This is in 2.94 of Saiva Canon.

The location of the temple, the names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the holy tirtham - all these details

தோகை மாமயி லனைய துடியிடை பாகமும் உடையார்
வாகை நுண்துளி வீசும் வாழ்கொளி புத்தூ ருளாரே.

Siva has thousand branches of the Vedas and He chants Sama Vedam also. He has the business of begging
very many times looking at the entrances of those who will give alms. He has as a half a lady whose waist is
like the drum tapering at the middle, and who is as tender as the big peacock with a long tail. He is in VaL KoLi
Puthur, where the Vaagai tree (Sirissa) scatters small drops (of honey).

This is a place where one of the eight holy sports of Siva took place. Here Siva killed Andhakasuran, a  demon.

At the time when the god of death who has weapons comes to us and throws his noose on our body,
there will be none to stand between him and us. O mind! Let us go the ancient King who has a white
umbrella as a mark of royal insignia, and He is in Veerattanam. This is the name of Siva in this shrine
and we shall reach Veerattanam Kōvalūr of Siva, who has a flag on which there is the bull.

(Here the flag is referred to twice as 'white flag' and the 'flag of bull.'  The first one may refer to the king

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana Sambandhar on Siva
in the temple of Tiru Valanchuzhi. This is in 2.106 of Saiva Canon.

The temple is in Kumbakonam taluk,  Thanjavur district. One can go by bus from Kumbakonam.  Or one
can go by train in Kumbakonam - Thanjavur route and get down in the station Swamimalai. This temple
is about 1 km. from Swamimalai temple of Muruga.

Siva -Karpaga Nathar.

Uma - Periya Nayaki.

Holy tree - Bhilva tree.

Holy tirtham - Arasal aaru (river, tributary of Kaveri), Jata tirtham, Kaveri river.

By worshipping the Lord who dwells in Tiruvalanchuzhi, surrounded by Kaveri river, where big precious stones of
pearls are deposited, uttering many times His names to the complete satisfaction of your tongue, cherishing Him
with love, and singing His fame, in the world girt by the great ocean, what great act of virtue you performed among
the good acts done in your previous births, O my mind!

What was the special act of virtue to be performed to worship Siva in Tiruvalanchuzhi,   is the doubt;
that doubt is cleared by the words uttering many times the name of god and singing his fame is the act done
by tongue, cherishing him with love is the act of the mind and worshipping is the act of the body.
