The following verse and the Padigam has been composed by Tiru Jnana
Sambandhar on Siva in the temple of Tiru mudhu kunram, the present day
Vriddhachalam. This is in Saiva Canon 1.93.

The details of location of the temple, names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree,
the holy waters have been already given in a Padigam under Tiru mudhu kunram.

This is also a Padigam with Tiru irukkuk kural verses, couplets.

Go and shower flowers on Him today in Tiru mudhu kunram. And pray to Him
well. There is only bliss all the time (for you).

Arunachala Siva.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana
Sambandhar, on Siva of Tiru Aalavoi, (the present day Madurai).  The Padigam
is in Saiva Canon 1.94.

The temple is in Madurai City, the second largest city in Tamizh Nadu, next
to Chennai. It is also of historical importance, since it was the capital of
Pandya kingdom and also the cradle of Tamizh Sangams, the Congregation
of Tamizh poets. Many puranas deal with Madurai, either in their parts or
in full. Apart from Periya  Puranam, the Tiruvilaiyadal Puranam, describing
the 63 holy sports of Siva, has taken place here.  Vadavur Puranam, narrating
the life of Manikkavachagar is also based in Madurai. Madurai Kalambakam,
Tiru Alavoi Puranam are also there.

Jnana Sambandhar's debate with Jainas took place here.
He defeated Jainas in anal vaadham (debate with fire) and punal
vadham (debate with water)  here only.

It is also in Tiru Irukkuk Kural.

Siva - Sundaresa / Chokka Natha.

Uma - Meenakshi / Angayarkanni.

Holy Tree - Kadamba tree.

Holy Waters - Vaigai river, The tank of golden lotus.

He is under the shade of Banyan Tree. He is of Tiru Aalavoi. He is the
Death to god of death.  He is here in this place.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana
Sambandhar on Siva in the temple of Tiruchirapalli. This comes in Saiva Canon 1.98.

The temple is in Tiruchirapalli, a town quite large, in the earlier Chozha Kingdom.
Today this town is known for its industries, educational institutions and one of
the largest rail connections, connecting all places in Tamizh Nadu and other states
of India.

The temple was built by Mahendra Varman, who was earlier wrongfully punishing
Saint Tiru Navukkarasar, on the advice of Jainas.  He later built this temple by
demolishing Jaina Maths.  The temple which is on a huge rock, was also once a
Jaina Math. Later Chozha kings extended the temple to be in the present form.
Varaguna Pandyan, who ruled over Chozha kingdom also did some constructions.

The word Tayumanavar means 'one who is mother too.' Siva is said to have
come in the guise of her mother, to a woman in advanced in pregnancy, and did
labor to make the lady deliver the child. The lady's own (biological) mother could not come in time due to floods in Kaveri. When her own mother came after 10 days,
she and her daughter were surprised, but Siva had disappeared!

The place is also the birthplace of Saint Tayumanavar and later Mahavidwan
Meenakshi Sundaram, a great Tamizh scholar.

Siva - Matrubhuteswarar / Tayumanavar.

Uma - Sugandhakunthalambal / Mattuvar kuzhal ammai.

Holy Tree - --

Holy Waters - Sivaganga / river Kaveri.

The demons of Tripura who were not guilty for their murderous acts, were
vanquished by Him, Siva, who is the Lord of the rock, in Tiruchirapalli. If He were
not to be your Lord, how can I convince you (the Jainas)? It is like calling the
cloth blue dyed, as white!

This is the town where on the foothills, there are plaintain trees, jackfruit trees,
and mango trees in numerous numbers and these yield sweet honey oozing fruits.
He is here in KuRRalam, with garlands of bones, tortoise shells and serpents,
with fire on His hand. This is the place of our Naked Lord!

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana
Sambandhar on Siva in the temple of Sirkazhi.  It is in Saiva Canon 1.102.

The location of the temple, names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the holy waters
have already been given under the first Padigam in Sirkazhi.

Like the elephant's trunk, there are long bulky plantain fruits, which have
been brought out by the trees, in Sirkazhi.  Bees swarm around the elephants
which are showing matha-neer (the gummy oil like liquid that is formed on
elephant's face) on its face. The Lord resides here, with dark mark on His throat,
with eight shoulders and three eyes. He is ever chanting Vedas. The devotees
who call Him, O Master! and pray have no miseries in this world.

The temple is called Vedagiri since Vedas are said to bear the temple on a hill.
Two birds (kazhuku, vultures) are said to do puja every day here and pray to Siva.
Even today, two birds come in the noon to the hill and take the cooked rice
given by priest. These two birds are said to be Jatayu and Sambathi.

Siva - Vedagiriswarar.

Uma - Tripura Sundari.

Holy tree - Plaintain tree

He is wearing an ear stud (that is intended for a lady) in one ear and a kuzhai
(that is intended for a man) on another. He is having the skull of Brahma who
is the compiler of Vedas and He goes for bhiksha with that skull as begging bowl.
He is having cremation ground as His kingdom and He dances there in the
midnight.  He loves this temple in Tiruk kazhuk kunRam.

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru Jnana
Sambandhar on Siva in the temple of Tirup pugali, another name for Sirkazhi.
It is in Saiva Canon 1.104.

The location of the temple, the names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the

He is wearing Ganga on His red matted locks. He burnt the Tripura into ashes.
This Lord of matted locks, is taking bhiksha in the white wet skull, swarmed
by vultures and stands at the houses begging alms. He, the Lord with white holy

The following verse and the Padigam has been composed and sung by Tiru
Jnana Sambandhar on Siva in Tiruvarur temple. This is in Saiva Canon 1.105.

The location of the temple, names of Siva and Uma, the holy tree, the holy waters
have all been given under the Padigam on Tiruvarur earlier.

In the gardens, the honey bees, with its ringing noise, go around with

He skinned the ferocious elephant, with Uma, the daughter of Himavan,
at His side, looking with dread.  He, the faultless, loves this place, Tiru Ooral,
where the gardens and cool paddy fields are side by side, and the blue lily,
like Uma's eyes, blossom in the ponds. Contemplate on this temple.
