punarvasu vaNNam - 08.07.2013.
« on: July 08, 2013, 09:30:08 AM »

Today is the punarvasu star day of the Tamizh month of Aani (Jyeshta) month.  punarvasu is the star on which Sri
Bhagavan was born in the month of Margazhi (Dhanur).  The Asramam usually celebrates the punarvasu star day
every month, with special pujas to Sri Ramaneswara Mahalingam. The lingam will be adorned with a golden casket,
indicating that punarvasu star is a gold colored star.  Muruganar has written poems on punarvasu under the title
punarvasu vaNNam (the glory of punarvasu) in Sri Ramana Sanndhi Murai. Sri Rama was also born on a punarvasu day
in the month of Chaitra.

To remember Sri Bhagavan specially on this punarvasu day, a verse from Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai - from ayal ninaiya pathu,
decad of 'No Other Thought'.

Verse 576 of Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai, starting as 'santAr thaN pozhilgaL pudai thangum Annamalaikke......

To Annamalai on whose slope nestle
Cool gardens filled with sandal wood
You came from Tiruchuzhi, Venkata,
And with one gracious glance you summoned
And saved this beggar.  Of whom but you,
O Mother, can I now think?

(Tr. Prof. K. Swaminathan)

The original Tamizh verse is patterned on Ponnar meniyane... of Saint Tirunavukakarasar, in Tevaram.

Arunachala Siva.
