Swami Śivananda's sayings
« on: May 28, 2013, 10:58:37 AM »
I decided to start a new topic dedicated to the teachings to Śri Śivananda. His wisdom is in complete unity with Śri Ramana's and that's why I put it in this forum.

"To achieve that state of lasting happiness and absolute peace, we must first know how to calm the mind, to concentrate and go beyond the mind. By turning the mind's concentration inward, upon the Self, we can deepen that experience of perfect concentration. This is the state of Meditation."

Thanks for starting this thread Hari . Being a student of the Sivananda Institution which was my first formal initiation to spirituality I always look with gratitude towards Swami Sivananda and his senior disciple Swami Vishnu devananda ( in whose Institution I got trained in classical Hatha /Raja Yoga ) for putting me on this path .
Swami Sivananda has an integrated approach to spirituality and basically his teachings are very useful for a beginner to spirituality and all his books are very simple and easy to follow . Swami Sivananda's teachings helps a person to prepare himself to receive the subtle and direct teachings of Bhagavn Ramana .

Yes. His teachings reflect the pure classical Advaita Vedanta teachings. They are very useful for everyone who is searching the path for Self-realization!

Thanks for starting this thread. Millions today owe their spiritual knowledge to Swami Sivananda.

Here is an excerpt from a letter Swami Sivananda wrote to Swami Chinmayananda in 1952

"Vigilant among the careless, awake among the sleepers, restrained among the indulgent, reflective among the thoughtless, the wise aspirant marches forward."

His words are like the roar of the lion goading us onto the right path.

Dear atmavichar, swayam, deepa, I am so much happy that here there are Bhagavan's devotees who have appreciated the nectar of Sri Swami Śivananda's Vedantic teachings!

Wonderful thread. Just my suggestion - from a structuring perspective - may be good to move this thread to General Discussion from "Teachings of Bhagawan" forum. And also Ramesh B's sayings thread to General discussion board or any other. Just a thought as this forum title clearly says - "The teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi"

Dear Sanjay, I cannot move them and I don't think it does so much matter where the topics are. Even more I think that their place would be here mainly because the words of these Masters perfectly reflect Śri Ramana's teachings.
