what makes someone act in this world ?
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:04:51 PM »
I have been pondering over this --  in this forum we all come and post something.  Knowing well,  it will be argued by others.

Well,  not only this,  we buy various books and study it.

Around every Guru,  number of literature,  plus audio songs and many poetry has got developed.

If we do not act in all this areas,  it is going to be only worse.

We are not going to be 'chumma irru', or 'just Be'.

No,  if we leave all this,  probably we will discuss politics or cinema or pornography .

Why is this?  I have got some insights into this.

There is a great illusionary power which I call maya shakthi.

It is not going to leave us in peace .  It will express itself as sexual energy.
If you completely repress sex,  it will express as desire for money and position.

If you repress even that,  it will find another way to release itself spiritually.

That maya shakthi is what we are livng with all the time.

One way we are really powerless,  clueless ,  infinitesimal.

Another way, we are a storehouse of this maya shakthi power.

It is not going to keep quiet.

So it propels one to act --  you have to roam around with friends and party.

you have to indluge in sex and lead married life.

you have to work hard ,  become rich and richer.

you have to develop taste for food and sweets.

you have to do gym for strong body.

you have to do more sins and develop more lust.

Or

you have to write poems or do painting.

You have to do pilgrimages a lot or learn music.

You have to blog about differnt topics.

You have to chant vedas or hear the same.

You have to read slokas or write them .

But 'chumma iru'  --  no no, that ,  this maya shakthi is not going to allow.

Atleast She is not going to allow that easily.

That is the fundamental difference between Sri Ramana Maharshi and us.

Somehow,  in His case,  She allowed him whole-heartedly to be 'chumma iru'.

So Maharhi escaped all worldy troubles,  big troubles.

And we ?  we are fully under that magical spell.

It is by that maya shakthi that one builds temples, gives lectures or do pilgrimages.

It is by that maya shakthi that we read books,  post topics in forum and argue with others.

I would say,  She has given has some violent herbal dosage.

This dosage we have got as a curse in the very birth itself.

We have got demented by that dosage and is all an Elephant Turd now.

We cannot bear that violent dosage chemical --  carrying this chemical we are all under its spell.

No matter someone is a sinner or after pleasure.

no matter someone is a virtous person and is after spiritual pursuit.

no matter you do kundalini yoga and seeing lights.

no matter you do miracles.

no matter you emanate heat all over the world like dhurva's tapas.

no matter you perform tapas under five fires.

no matter you enhance vedic dharma and do protection of cows all over India.

you are really under the sepll of this chemical dosage she has given.

This is what is making you to act in certain ways.

The whole trouble is due to this elephant turd chemical She has given.

I dont know under what conditions, She will withdraw this chemical.

But once it is withdrawn 'somehow',  we can be in that 'chumma iru' state.

Nothing else stands in the way.

If you keep this chemical within you for a long time without acting in any way,  you will really go mad or die.

Something will burst from inside you.

This energy of that elephant turd chemical has to be constantly released from your consciousness somehow.

You indulge in sex or write holy books or speak for hours on vednata or perform miracles or whatever --  you have to release that energy.  Otherwise,  it is not going to leave you at peace.

Recently last week or so,  I wrote three blog articles on Devi Upasana and my devotion to a particular deity in  a remote temple.

With meticulous care,  I attached images, quotes,  references from Sri Shankara etc.  I was in a different world last week altogether.

This week you know what I did - I went and deleted all the posts.

Because the energy is released ,  it is gone now.

Chemical is there --  but that burdensome energy is released and emitted out from me.

So that is the point --  I prayed to this maya shakthi -- please withdraw this chemical  it is unbearable.

She is laughing at me,  'oh what are you talking?  birth has started, it is rolling now with full speed,  event after evnet,  film after film is rolled ,  where  is the question
of stopping this chaos?  no , never.  I am not going to.  '

But I am not giving up.  One day, She will develop motherly affection and turn towards me --  looking upon with mercy ,  she will withdraw this chemical.  To rest me in Peace, in Chumma Iru.

You give this maya shakthi any name you like --  Divine Goddess or Impersonal force from Self or whatever name you give.  Essentially it amounts to this.

Complete agreement with you, Krishna. Many points you mentioned - I too keep thinking.

When I see kids rushing to school and parents struggling to teach them even simple things like ABCD and they not wanting to learn - I wonder - what really a jeeva wants is very very limited - everything else including ABCD :) is imposed on it. Every moment of a kid's life is spent creating all such unwanted knowledge and super impositions, which they dont need at all.

But I also look at it this way - maya shakthi is nothing but supreme truth itself. While it manifests, I just want to sit in awe and watch her manifest even through me. I dont get to do it always - I myself get pulled into that current and act.

very true Sanjay,  one gets infinite awe in merely thinking on this topic.

My wonder is,  just for one second,  we are not stil.  something we have to do.  either meditate or sleep in meditation or condemning meditation.

you are right --  we are pulled into forcefully.

nowadays when I chant Lalitha Sahasranamam  I wonder with awe at Kali's power to have had all of us as just puppets.

smash it -- she does in a magical whip!!

Dear Krishnan,

What makes us keep on DOING instead of BEING?  This is basically from the mind/ego. The ego first comes out with I thought
and then plethora of thoughts.  These thoughts make us do some act, this or that. Sri Bhagavan mentions this in Who am I?
He says: Since everything is done by a parmeswara sakti, and instead of abiding to Its power, why should one keep on thinking
that I should do this and do that?

I think our present nature of outgoing tendency and embedded Vasanas inside are responsible.

I agree that something inside will always impel us to do this or that. It is impossible to just be. But I believe self inquiry will take us there after many, many lives.

Dear silence,

To think that it will take many lives to attain the Selfhood, is itself an obstacle. Do not do that. Place faith in Sri Bhagavan and
follow His teaching. Only preparation may long time, and the Self Realization occurs in a second, like lightning.

Krishnan-ji, good question and articulation.

Few thoughts

1. As others have said, our prarabdha + our inbuilt vasanas force us to act (and not be). After all, it is the nature of sense organs to perceive the world, the nature of the mind to keep jumping from one thought to another.
Nochurji brings the example of elephant and its trunk - the trunk cannot stay still similar to our mind. So, they give a stick to keep it still. We need to give our mind also some "stick".
I struggle with just "being" for more than a few minutes - after a point, I start feeling sleepy. So, rather than do unnecessary things, we give a stick to the mind like chanting, music, contemplation, lectures, etc.

2. Bhagawan says there is some amount of predetermination - if you are supposed to act, you cannot stop even if you try. and vice versa. I am not able to experience this yet.

3. We are asked to pursue "purushartha" - dharma, artha, kama, moksha. No problem in thus "acting". As Bhagawan says however, actions without right attitude are hurdles. The attitude behind action is
a) "ishwararpitham and nechchaya kritham" - surrender action to God and desireless action (Upanishad sara)
b) be an instrument (nimitthamaathram bhava as in BG)
c) remove even sense of "doership"

4. Even inferior thoughts come due to vasanas, etc. Rather than feeling despondent, we can ignore them (not give them credence) and move on assuming this is the play of maya. Kanakadasa, a great Kannada poet-saint playfully accuses God in one his songs (tanu ninnadhu.. jeevana ninnadhu) that even those inferior thoughts only belong to God (he says "when I see young beautiful dancers, the sight also only belongs to you!)

sanjayaji, when kids complain about boredom sometimes in Chinmaya mission, our Swamiji says "its okay. let them be bored. let them learn to be without any activity". However, we never let them or ourselves be "bored". We think every waking minute has to be filled with some activity or another and thus lose the ability to be still.

Pranam,
Deepa

Dear deepa,

When Ramaswami Pillai asked Sri Bhagavan which thoughts should be rejected as bad and which should be accepted as good,
Sri Bhagavan replied: "Reject all thoughts, even the thought of Bhagavan."

That would be ideal. I am not able to though! So, better to have thoughts about Bhagawan, etc.

Dear Subramanian,

Could you please point to those serial posts, I can't find them. Also I am curious about what you said. I am sure I have a lot of vasanas, which is why I can't JUST BE and there is the tendency to keep doing something. But logically wouldnt it take many lives to exhaust all those vasanas even if I do have faith and practice self-inquiry all the time?

:) To think it ttakes many lifes to attain Self Hood is an obstacle ... agreed ...
is it not an obstacle to think "I have to attain Selfhood" ?:D
:)

Yes - It indeed is - after some stage. But to start with unless one had this "desire", we all would have never come here :)

Yes. Sri Bhagavan has said - Desiring self knowledge is the only desire one can have.
