Carnivore animal
« on: October 30, 2012, 08:35:33 PM »
I want to buy a frog but it eats insects. And I feel awful about that. What to do?Is it wrong to give animal as food to other animal? But if I don't it would die...

Sri Hari, it is the frog's dharma to eat other insects, but the same is not our dharma. its a tricky situation :) If you feel awful, the i feel, just heed to your heart.

I would let things be as they are, would give up the idea to pet any being. everybody deserves freedom as we do.

Please see this topic thread, it may be of interest to you, in line with your query!

:) Hope you find peace

Thank you, dear Nagaraj!

Yes, I agree that it is its dharma but is my dharma to give it flies? If I do I am like a murderer. But if I don't I am murderer too because the frog will die. But to say that eating flies is wrong is also incorrect because this is Lord's Will. So I don't know how to look at this situation.

I agree about freedom. But look this situation. I got a present years ago - it was chinchilla. I love it very much and it is very attached to all my family. If I set it free it will die because a cat will eat it or it will die from freezing during winter. So what is right in this situation? Is not domestication the dharma of my chinchilla?

Dear Hari,

I had chinchilla few years back, and they eat pellets and grass, etc.  But if You want to buy animal which eats insects, then make a research can it eat something else. Now i have a parrot, and i use to have a one before coz i love birds very much. They eat also insects too,but i learned mine to be vegetarian.

Yes. When you grow omnivore animal it is much easier. :) The real problem is when you must feed carnivore. It cannot eat anything else. All animals I have grown were vegetarian or omnivores. Oh, except my cat, iteats  food for cats which is from meat but there is nothing I can do. I just will not buy the frog. I cannot kill flies, no matter how much I want this frog.

Dear Hari,

Well,it is indeed dilema. I had a dog for many years, and i gave it dog's food, from cans, etc. But it is completely different when You need to give to animal another living animal to eat. And to abandone animal friend coz of that,is hard too,and it not need to be right. With such things it is hard to tell what is right. I think only our heart can tell us what we need to do in that kind of situations.
