O God, help me against this self of mine
that is seeking help from You;
I seek justice from no one but from
this justice-seeking self.
I shall not get justice from any one except from
Him who is nearer to me than myself;
For this I-ness comes moment by moment from Him.

Love is best when mixed with anguish.
In our town,
we won't call you a Lover
if you escape the pain.
Look for Love in this way,
welcome it to your soul,
and watch your spirit fly away in ecstasy.

Practice alone will bring about continuity of awareness.

Seek my grace within the Heart.
I will drive away your darkness and show you the light. This is my responsibility.

Abandon the drama [of the world] and seek the Self within.
Remaining within, I will protect you, [ensuring] that no harm befalls you.

Draw near to me.
I am gentle and my ways are light.
You will find rest for your weary soul.

I am powerless by Love's game.
How can you expect me
to behave and act modest?
How can you expect me
to stay at home,
like a good little boy?
How can you expect me
to enjoy being chained like a mad man?
Oh, my love, you will find me every night,
on your street,
with my eyes glued to your window,
waiting for a glimpse of your radiant face.

All I Was Doing Was Breathing

Something has reached out and taken in the beams of my eyes.
There is a longing, it is for his body, for every hair of that dark body.
All I was doing was being, and the Dancing Energy came by my house.
His face looks curiously like the moon, I saw it from the side, smiling.
My family says: 'Don't ever see him again!' And they imply things in a low voice.
But my eyes have their own life; they laugh at rules, and know whose they are.
I believe I can bear on my shoulders whatever you want to say of me.
Mira says: Without the energy that lifts mountains, how am I to live?

When you get on a real spiritual path, everything comes up,
at a fast rate of speed. Things may seem very bad, terrible, to some people.
It doesn't happen to everybody. It is because you are accelerating your karma.
It's all coming out of you. It's all being totally dissolved.

And then if you hold on, become still and quiet and do not react to these things,
all of a sudden you will start feeling a profound peace, a profound happiness, a profound joy.
You will finally feel freedom.

There's something within you that knows what to do.
There is a power greater than you that knows how to take care of you without your help.
All you've got to do is to surrender to it.
Surrender your thoughts, your mind, your ego, to the current that knows the way.
It will take care of you. It will take better care of you than you can ever imagine.

A great Yogi

In my travels I spent time with a great yogi.

Once he said to me.

"Become so still you hear the blood flowing
through your veins."

One night as I sat in quiet,

I seemed on the verge of entering a world inside so vast
I know it is the source of
all of
us.

Drink the nectar of the Divine Name, O human! Drink the nectar of the Divine Name!
Leave the bad company, always sit among righteous company.
Hearken to the mention of God (for your own sake).
Concupiscence, anger, pride, greed, attachment:
wash these out of your consciousness.
Mira's Lord is the Mountain-Holder, the suave lover.
Soak yourself in the dye of His colour.

If I flinched at every grief, I
would be an intelligent idiot.

If I were not the sun, I'd ebb and
flow like sadness.  If you were not

my guide, I'd wander lost in Sanai.
If there were no light, I'd keep

opening and closing the door.  If
there were no rose garden, where

would the morning breezes go?  If
love did not want music and laughter

and poetry, what would I say?  If
you were not medicine, I would look

sick and skinny.  If there were no
leafy limbs in the air, there would

be no wet roots.  If no giftes were
given, I'd grow arrogant and cruel.

If there were no way into God, I
would not have lain in the grave of

this body so long.  If there were no
way from left to right, I could not

be swaying with the grasses.  If
there were no grace and no kindness,

conversation would be useless, and
nothing we do would matter.  Listen

to the new stories that begin every
day.  If light were not beginning

again in the east, I would not now
wake and walk out inside this dawn.

I Write Of That Journey

I remember how my mother would hold me.
I would look up at her sometimes and see her weep.

I understand now what was happening.
Love so strong a force
it broke the
cage,

and she disappeared from everything
for a blessed
moment.

All actions have evolved
From the taste of flight;
the hope of freedom
moves our cells
and limbs.

Unable to live on the earth,
Mira ventured out alone in the sky -
I write of that journey
of becoming as
free as
God.

Don't forget love;
it will bring all the madness you need
to unfurl yourself across
the universe.
