Pradakshina on moon less night (amavasya)
« on: August 18, 2012, 11:41:56 AM »
Dear All,

We all know that doing pradakshina on any normal day/full moon is very auspicious, but do the same thing applies even on amavasya. I heard that few people esp who practice mantras or paranormal powers(not sure what to call them) do pradakshina on this day to revive their powers, is it true? If it is yes...... Then is it okay for us to do pradakshina even on this day?(just to gain self realization/to see the lord, but not for any other interests)

Dear vinod_526,

Even giri pradakshina on new moon days is done by some people and has its own benefits.  The Arunachala Puranam says:

on Sunday - to have their desires fulfilled, and their work to attain good fruition.

on Monday  - Siva saroopyam - the same form as Siva.

on Tuesday -  loans and poverty will be cleared.

on Wednesday - knowledge of Vedas and Sastras and sixty four arts.

on Thursday -  reach the heavens and even rule the heavens.

on Friday - to reach Vishnu padam, the feet of Vishnu.

on Saturday -  to ward off the ill effects of planets in their horoscopes.

Even if it is a new moon day, if it is one of the above days, the respective benefits would accrue.

Arunachala Siva.

Dear vinod526,

New Moon Day and Full Moon Day are the standard translations.

Arunachala Siva.
