Dear Jyoti and akash8m,

What is referred to appears like  a routine Siva Ashtottaram.  There are several types of
Siva Ashtottaram and Sahasranamams. I have seen one specific Arunachala Ashtottaram somewhere. It gives specifi\c
feats of Arunachala like - Brahma and Vishnu not able to fathom Siva's crown and feet, Uma doing tapas and getting
half of Siva's forms etc.., I shall post it when I am able to trace it.

Dear Jyoti, akash8m,

Skandam gives about 97 names for praying to Arunachala. It is not 108 as a typical Ashottaram. However these names can
be chanted for praying specifically to Arunachala - Siva.

I shall give them in parts:

1. Om Sonadrisah - Lord of the Red Hill.
2. Om Arimadrosaj - Lord of Crimson Hill.
3. Om Devadhisah - Lord of Devas.
4. Om Janapriyah - Beloved of people.
5. Om Prapannarakshakah - Protector of those who seek refuge in Him.
6. Om Dhirah - Brave One.
7. Om Sivah - The auspicious One.
8. Om Sevakavartakah - He who is devoted to His votaries.
9. Om Amrtesanah - Lord of the nectar.
10. Om Stripumbhavapradayakah - Granter of birth as woman or man.

contd.,

Arunachala Siva.

I cant resist remembering the great sense of humour that Sri Bhagawan had here :). Bhagawan once said - there are 3 mad people in Arunachala. First is Arunachaleswara himself as he gave half his body to Uma without thinking of consequences, second is Seshadri Swamigal and third is he himself :)

Dear Subramaniam, Sir

Thank you so much for this. I used to read the 108 names of Shiva everday and know it to be very powerful.  100 names of Arunachala could only be more powerful considering the special bond we all have with Him.   Is there a reason why it is 8 names short?

Regards,
Child of Arunachala

Dear Child of Arunachala,

I do not know.  In fact the English version of the Stotram gives only 97 names. In Tamizh version, I searched for the remaining
three and with difficulty I could get them and added to this. The total comes to 100. I do not know why there is shortfall 8
names.

Namaste, Subramaniam sir,

What does it matter that we are eight names short.  We have 100 names to chant now :-)

With regards,
Child of Arunachala
