This is from Saint Avvaiyar's Moodurai (Elders' Words).

Do not think that thAzhambu (what is the English name for this?) is a long one and Magizhambu (small flowers, the Magizham tree'
is the Sthala Viruksham of Arunachaleswara Temple, Tiruvannamalai), is small. The fragrance of Magizhambu is greater than that of
thAzhambu;  Do not therefore think that he is a small built man, (but his wisdom could be very high).  -- Seshadri swamigal was a
short man. -

The ocean is big. But are the waters of the ocean drinkable?  Whereas a small spring nearby will be having sweet potable water.

Tirumoolar in Tantra 4, Ch. 9 called EroLi Chakram (Chakra of Supreme Light) says that Pranava (Aum) is the center of the
Chakra.

Pranava is the Mantra Supreme with its seat in the eyebrow center:

To speak of mantras and chakras
There it is one like the circle of fire ---
The Tantras glorify,
Meditate on Pranava that is in the eye brow center
Through the Tantras reached
No more thine bondage is.

The following is from the Charama Kavi written by Va.Su. Chengalvaraya Pillai, on his father (since deceased) Vadakkupattu
Tha. Subramania Pillai.  Chengalvaraya Pillai was an authority on Tiruppugazh and Tiruvachakam. His father V.Tha. Subramania
Pillai was responsible for first publishing in print Tiruppugazh in early 19th century.

Chengalvaraya Pillai bemoans his father's death in this song:  O son of the One with dark patch (hala-hala poison) on
His throat, the One who lives on Tiruttanigai Hills. O Master! My father only printed and published Tiruppugazh so that
the people at large in this world could read it and lead a righteous  life, leaving all sins and inadequacies!  He thus showed
them all the righteous path. He is not there today. Where is he gone, please tell me.

*

Chengalvaraya Pillai had also met Sri Bhagavan a few times and on seeing Him, He found Him as Siva wearing a coupina!
Muruganar and Pillai were great friends and it was Murugnar who brought Pillai to Sri Bhagavan!

Tirumoolar in Tantra 5 speaks about Saivam and its various aspects in Chapter 1.  We have skipped last three chapters of Tantra
4 since they deal with various aspects of Sri Chakram and Sakti Mantras, which have only to be a learnt through a competent Guru.

Suddha Saivam:

1419

Four Paths of Saivism:

The Lord created earth in wisdom infinite
And He made it abode of man
How shall I sing His Majesty!
He is mighty as Mount Meru,
From whence He sways the three worlds;
And He is the Four Paths of Saivam too here below.

(Mount Meru is the universal hub, the support of all worlds. It is the central mountain of Hindu and Buddhist cosomography,'
around which our cosmos is arranged by intervening concentric circles of golden mountains.   In Tantra and Yoga sastra,
the Mount Meru denotes Sushumna nadi which is the chief orthedian nerve situated in the hollow of the spinal column.
This is also explained by W.G. Evans Wentz in his translation of the Tibetian Book of the Dead.)

1420

Suddha Saivam:

Those who tread the path of Suddha Saivam
Stand aloft,
Their hearts intent on Eternal Para;
Transcending Worlds of Pure and Impure Maya,
Where Pure Intelligence consorts not with Base Ignorance,
And the lines that divide the Real, Unreal, and Real/Unreal*
Are discerned sharp.

(*Real/Unreal is mithya.)

This is from Tamizh Saint poetess, Avvaiyar from Aathi choodi.  Aathi choodi is the name of Siva who wears Aathi flowers.

Control and cool up the anger.

Anger is one of the dangerous diseases. One should control the anger. Anger gives pain to others and also diseases to you
like hypertension and heart attack.  Occasional anger towards those who have done wrong to you is permissible. But not
anger on every occasion.

Saint Tiruvalluvar also says: Even those who stand at the summit of the hill called 'good character' cannot withhold anger
even for a second. Anger is such a disease which comes to one for no reason and such provocations should be controlled.

Tirumoolar speaks in Tantra 5, Ch. 2 about Asuddha Saivam, which means impure saivam. Impure in the sense, compared to
keeping Siva in heart ever, this is only adornment Saiva mudras on the body and doing Chariya and Kriya (that is cleaning the
Siva temple and bathing Siva lingam, and collecting flowers and removing the weeds in Siva temples etc., etc.,

Path of Chariya Kriya:

They who walk the twin paths of Chariya and Kriya
They ever praise the twin feet of Lord;
On their limbs they wear holy emblems
The twin rings in ear lobes
The twin rudraksha garland around the neck,
And adopt the twin mudra*
All, in amiable constancy.

(* mudras are marks of bull and trident on their shoulders vide Tevaram of Tirunavukkarasar, starting 'ponnAr tiruvadi...')

This is from NAladiyAr.

The grove that has received the chill winds and mist will lose all its fruits. So also the youth. Do not go after women with
eyes like javelin and show your lust. Even that woman would become old one day and walk with stick as you walk with stick
in your old age.

This is from Tirumoolar's Tantra 5, ch. 3 describing the Sanmarga Saivam. Sanmargam means Jnana path.

Greatness of Jnani in Suddha Saivam:

The blemishless Jnani is the King of Wisdom's realm
He is the Sun, whose beams pierce the massive lore
  of Vedanta-Siddhanta
His is salvation True
He, the immortal One
And devoted true to Suddha Saiva way.

This is from Tiruvalluvar, from the chapter PoRai udamai, means having the quality of perseverance and patience.

Those who without eating (upavasam) and meditate on God are great, no doubt.
But those who put up with the abusive words of others, with great patience are greater. The former comes next
only to the latter.

Tirumoolar in Tantra 5, ch. 4 speaks about Kadum Chudda Saivam, that is Rigorous Suddha Saivam:

I and You Difference Effaced:

I sought Him in terms of I and You
But He that knows not I from You
Taught me the truth, 'I' indeed is 'You'.
And now I talk not of 'I' and 'You'.

This is from Tiruvalluvar, under the decad: Pudhlavarai PeRuthal, Getting sons:

The paramount duty of a father to his son is to make him sit as a front person in the court or assembly.**

** This is possible only when the father educates his son well and also develop him to have a good character.

Tiruvalluvar in his earlier kuraL (see yesterday's kuraL, said about the paramount duty of a father to his son.  Here he
says what is the paramount duty of a son to his father?

The paramount duty of a son to his father, is to make people say: Oh, what a great tapas, his father should have done
to have a son like this son?

Viswantha Swami in his Sri Ramana  Ashottaram says as an explanation to the nama : Om Sundararya tapa phalaya Namah |

One (Sri Bhagavan) who was born as the fruit of great tapas of  Sundaram Iyer!

Tirumoolar in Tantra 5 ch. 5, describes Jnana, Yoga, and Chariya:

Jnana,  Yoga, Kriya, and Chariya Defined:

To be one, Life within Life - that the luminous path of Jnana.
To seek the Light within Life - that the mighty path of Yoga.
To invest image with Life -- that the external way of Kriya
To adore Siva in love -- that the basic worship of Chariya.

This is from Tiruk kazhuk kunRa Padigam of Tiruvachakam of Saint Manikkavachagar.

O the madcap of Tirup perundurai, who once, for the sake of pittu (a rice flour + jaggery preparation) you carried sands
(for blocking the floods in Vaigai river). This lowly fellow who never understood righteous life, has not yet come to your fold.
O the Lord of Sivaloka!  You have, to take over me, and rule me, this lowly dog, showed your Form in Tirukkazhuk kunRam.

(Siva came as a young guru first in Tiruperunduarai.  Later He showed His form in Tiruk kazhuk kunRam to Manikkavachagar).

This is from Tirumoolar Tirumandiram,Tantra 5, ch. 6. which speaks of Kriya:

True Worship is Worship within.

You may adore Him with sandal fragrance exceeding
That grows on peaks atop in forests interior,
You may worship Him with flowers rare,
That bloom in Heaven's gardens
Unless you shed your fleshy attachments
And realize Him in the depths of your heart
You shall never never reach His Holy Feet
That is like flowers that shed honey dew.
