Agastya consuming the ocean
« on: April 21, 2012, 06:10:54 PM »
There is this very popular story about Agastya consuming an entire ocean. The Devas had taken shelter in some cosmic ocean to escape the wrath of the asuras, and they prayed Sage Agastya to help them as this hiding was insufficient and the Asuras would eventually find them and kill them, and then, Agastya consumes the entire ocean to help save the Devas.

The Significance of consuming the entire ocean is consumption of Mirage of water body, the fear of the Devas was as good as fearing from a mirage of water, and, thus consuming the ocean body, Sage Agastya saved the Devas, subtly revealing them the real nature of Mithya and Self.

Every fantasies that we read in the Puranic stories is full of significance and wisdom, and, they are not just some Harry Potter stories :)

The significance being, the absolute surrender of the Devas, and the Sage Agastya consuming the illusion of the Devas, and reveling them, their real nature, self, atman.
