tu pyaar ka saagar hai
you are an ocean of love

teri ek boond ke pyaase hum
we are thirsty for a single drop of love

lauta jo diya tune
if you turn us away

chale jaayenge jahaan se hum
we will go away from this world

the wounded bird of the heart is restless to fly

pankh hai komal, aankh hai dhundli
the wings are delicate, the eyes are foggy

jaana hai saagar paar
have to go across the ocean

jaana hai saagar paar
have to go across the ocean

ab tu hi ise samjha
now only you can explain it to my soul and heart

raah bhoole the kahan se hum
from where have we forgotten the path

idhar jhoom ke gaaye zindagi
on this side life sings and dances

udhar hai maut khadi
on that side death is standing

Koi kya jaane kahaan hai seema
who can know where is the border

uljhan aan padi
the mind is confused now

kaano mein zara keh de
tell me in my ears

ki aaye kaun disha se hum
from which direction have we come

tu pyaar ka saagar hai
you are an ocean of love

teri ek boond ke pyaase hum
we are thirsty for a single drop of love

teri ek boond ke pyaase hum
we are thirsty for a single drop of love

tu pyaar ka saagar hai
you are an ocean of love

O Lord, you are our creator
Our deeds are the outcome of
a righteous path we walk and evil we shun
we smile fulfilled till our last breath
O Lord, you are our creator

Frail is the human being
With a million shortcomings
But you who stands tall, is forgiving
The world exists by your grace
You who breathed life into us
Will surely bear our burdens?

When put to the test
O Lord, hold us firm
To our evil-doers, we are kind
May there be no desire for revenge
May every step ahead be for love
May every thought of enmity be wiped

The world is engulfed in darkness
Your creation is afraid
He is uninformed and blind
The light of peace and happiness is hidden from him
Such is the strength of your presence,
a moonless night glows bright

Jyoti Kalash Chhalke
Huye Gulabi, Laal Sunehre
Rang Dal Baadal Ke
Jyoti Kalash Chhalke

An urn of (divine) light overflows.
Turned pink, red and golden
did the colors of clusters of clouds.
An urn of (divine) light overflows.

Ghar Aangan Van Upvan Upvan
Karati Jyoti Amrit Se Seenchan
Mangal Ghat Dhal Ke
Jyoti Kalash Chhalke

Home, courtyard, garden, garden
(Divine) light irrigates them with nectar
An urn of (divine) light overflows

Paat Paat Birva Hariyala
Dharti Ka Mukh Hua Ujala
Sach Sapne Kal Ke
Jyoti Kalash Chhalke

Leaves and branches are green
The face of the earth is radiant
The dreams of tomorrow are true
An urn of (divine) light overflows

Usha Ne Aanchal Phailaaya
Phailee Sukh Ki Sheetal Chhaya
Neeche Aanchal Ke
Jyoti Kalash Chhalke

Dawn has spread a gossamery sheet,
Spreading cool shades of happiness.
Beneath the gossamery sheet,
An urn of (divine) light overflows.

Jyoti Yashoda Dharti Maiya
Neel Gagan Gopal Kanhaiya
Shyamal Chhavi Jhalke
Jyoti Kalash Chhalke

Light Yashoda Earth Mother
Blue skies Gopal Krishna
Glimpses of Krishna's image (everywhere)
An urn of (divine) light overflows.

Ambar Kumkum Kana Barsaaye
Phool Pankhudiyo Par Muskaaye
Bindu Tuhin Jal Ke
Jyoti Kalash Chhalke

The sky pours specks of saffron
Smiles on flowers and petals
Dew, dots of water
An urn of (divine) light overflows.

'Jyoti Kalash Chhalke' is a song heralding dawn. In the morning, the rays of the sun awaken everything. They bring splendour to everything they touch. 'Jyoti' means light. 'Kalash' means an urn or water pot. 'Chhalke' means overflowing. The poet expresses his joy at dawn with the phrase 'Jyoti Kalash Chhalke', which literally means that an urn of (divine) light is overflowing.
Dawn
The lyrics of 'Jyoti Kalash Chhalke' evoke a series of positive images. Clouds turn from red to orange to yellow in the morning. The home, the courtyard and the garden are flush with nectar like light. The earth is lush green. Dew laden flowers are a visual delight. The sun cares for everything just like Mother Yashoda cares for Krishna, who manifests in everything around us.
Man Anand Anand Chhayo (1982, Vijeta) is another wonderful song on the theme of sunrise.
Mothers

The picturization of the song is a tribute to mothers. It shows Meena Kumari doing her daily routine in the morning with a young, playful child. Many of my friends may remember how our moms formed the backbones of happy homes through daily schedules and maintenance of traditions. This song shows Meena Kumari getting up early morning, bowing to the morning sun, sprinkling water in the courtyard, offering morning prayers, making rangoli, going around tulsi plants and cooking. In between, she's engaged with the young child who keeps on playing mischief.

What strikes me is the relative calm and simplicity of both the song and its picturization. Life in modern cities is fast paced, with busy but harried moms. In contrast, Meena Kumari is busy but relaxed throughout the song.

Tum Gagan Ke Chandramaa Ho, Main Dharaa Ki Dhool Hoon
Tum Pranay Ke Devataa Ho, Main Samarpit Phool Hoon
Tum Ho Poojaa Main Pujaari, Tum Sudhaa Main Pyaas Hoon

You are the moon that illumines the sky. I am merely specks of dust on earth.
You are the god who radiates love. I am merely an offering of flowers.
You are the prayer; I am merely a seeker. You are the nectar that quenches my thirst.

Tum Mahaasaagar Ki Seemaa, Main Kinaare Ki Leher
Tum Mahaasangeet Ke Swar, Main Adhoori Saans Bhar
Tum Ho Kaayaa Main Hoon Chhaayaa, Tum Kshamaa Main Bhool Hoon

You are the horizon, the boundary of great oceans! I am merely a wave near the shore.
You are the notes of exquisite symphonies. I am barely half a breath.
You are the body, I am your shadow. You are forgiveness! One who accepts me with all my faults.

Tum Usha Ki Laalimaa Ho, Bhor Kaa Sindoor Ho
Mere Praanon Ki Ho Gunjan, Mere Man Kaa Mayoor Ho
Tum Ho Poojaa Main Pujaari, Tum Sudhaa Main Pyaas Hoon

You are the resplendent sky at dusk and dawn.
You are the melody in my breath and the joy in my heart.
You are the prayer; I am merely a seeker. You are the nectar that quenches my thirst.

         (1)Nirpathuve nadapathuve parapathuve,
neengalellam soppanam thaano,
pala thotra mayakangalo,

what ever I perceive as standing (still), walking and flying around me,
are all of these just my dreams?
are they mere illusions that my thoughts make me beleive of this world?

(2)karpadhuve ketpadhuve karudhuvadhe,
neengalellam arpa maayaygalo,
ummul aalndha porul illaiyo,

what ever I learn, I hear , I imagine,
are all these petty illusions?
don?t all these thing have a deeper meaning/significance?

(3)vaanakame ilaveyile maracharive,
neengalellam kaanalin neero,
verum kaatchi pilai thaano,

The sky, the first rays of sunlight, the trees along slopes,
are all of you merely a mirage?
are these just a result of my erroneous view?

(4)ponathellam kanavinaipol,
pudhainthazhinthe ponathanaal,
naanum or kanavo,
intha gnalamum poi thaano,

whatever went (thoughts and also people), like a dream,
got buried and was lost in the past (also means buried under the earth ? after death),
similarly am I also just a dream ( I will also be gone/forgotten one day),
isn?t this world a lie too?

(5)kaalam endre oru ninaivum,
kaatchi endre pala ninaivum,
kolamum poygalo,
angu gunangalum poygalo,

The thought we perceive as time,
The multiple thoughts that arise due to our power of vision (of the space around us),
are all these forms (appearances) mere lies?
there, what we perceive as characters (qualities of a person), aren?t these too lies?

(6)kaanpadhellam maraiyum endraal,
maraindhadhellam kaanbamandro,
naanum or kanavo,
intha gnalamum poy thaano.

if it is true that, what ever we see will vanish eventually,
wouldn?t we see all that vanished? (as our memories) ( isn?t this a paradox)
am I just a dream?
isn?t this world a lie too?

      itni shakti hame dena data
mann ka vishvas kamzor ho na

ham chalen nek raste pe ham se
bhool kar bhi koyi bhool ho na
itni shakti hame dena data
mann ka vishvas kamzor ho na

door agyaan ke hon andhere
tu hame gyaan ki roshni de
har burayi se bachte rahen ham
jitni bhi de bhali jndagi de
bair ho na kisi ka kisi se
bhaavna mann me badle ki ho na

ham na sochen hame kya mila hai
ham ye sochen kiya kya hai arpann

      Give us the strength Lord
So our faith does not waver (weaken)

Leading a life of righteousness
Even accidentally we don?t forget this path
Give us the strength Lord
So our faith does not waver (weaken)

Dispel the darkness of ignorance
Give us the light of knowledge
Save us from all misdeeds
Whatever life we have let it be blessed
Let there be no ill-will towards each other
Let there be no desire for revenge

Let us not focus on what we have received
But focus on what we have given (contributed)
Distributing flowers of happiness to all
Everyone?s life becomes a fragrant garden
Let your grace flow
Cleanse every corner of our minds

haree Aum, haree Aum, haree Aum, haree Aum

Today my heart trembles for a glimpse of Hari
Without you everything is going wrong
Am praying to you, keep my shame

I am a humble follower of your residence
When will you cast your eyes on me
listen to the prayers of my upset heart

Without the Guru from where can I seek knowledge
Give your blessings/gifts, Hari, I will sing your praises
You are the King of all educators

The one with the flute, do not lets down my hopes
The taker of pains do not leave me
Grant me your presence today, even in loan

jyot se jyot jagaate chalo, prem kee gngaa bahaate chalo
raah men aaye jo deen dukhee, sab ko gale se lagaa te chalo

kaun hain ooanchaa, kaun hain neechaa, sab men wo hee samaayaa
bhedabhaaw ke jhoothhe bharam men, ye maanaw bharamaayaa
dharm dhwajaa fharaate chalo

saare jag ke kanakan men hain, diwy amar ek aatmaa
ek bramh hain, ek saty hain, ek hee hain paramaatmaa
praanon se praan milaate chalo

Let your love flow as pure as Mother Ganga.
Spread light and radiance to all, and let the river of love flow.
Embrace the poor and needy with open arms.
Anyone without friends or companions has the Lord to look after them.
One who is poor or weak has the love of the Lord.
Keep lighting lamps of mercy and let the river of love flow.
There is darkness all around, directions are forgotten.
Humans have turned into demons; no one is left to listen to the anguish.
Change earth into heaven, and let the river of love flow.
No one is superior or inferior, God lives in us all.
Man is lost in the misapprehension of discrimination.
Keep flying the flag of Dharma (righteousness) and let the river of love flow.
The divine spirit resides in every fragment of the universe,
there is only one Brahman, one truth, one supreme.
Become one with the eternal and let the river of love flow.

Refrain:
Sai, look at us mercifully, and take care of your children.
Sai, look at us mercifully, and take care of your children.

You know this mundane world, this world full of illusion.
I am blind and ignorant devotee of yours, give me God?s vision.
Das Ganu says : What shall I say now? My tongue fails me

Look at me mercifully, O my Sai, without you I have no one ?
no mother, no father, no brother. Look at me mercifully.
I am blind and ignorant devotee of yours :
I know nothing , I know nothing , I know nothing of God
or the rites.   Look at me mercifully ?.
I have wasted my whole life, I have wasted my whole life
and made no lasting friend, and made no lasting friend, and
made no lasting friend  for the final journey. Look at me mercifully ?..
I, Ganu, am the broom of your mosque,  I, Ganu, am the broom of your mosque
And you, Baba Sai, you are our Lord, And you, Baba Sai, you are our Lord,
And you, Baba Sai, you are our Lord.   Look at me mercifully??

Owaloo aaratee mazhaa Sadgurunaathaa ? maazhaa Sainaatha
Paanchaahee tatwaanche deep laawilaa aataan

Nirgunaachee sthitee kaisee aakaaraa aalee ? Baba aakaaraa aalee
Sarvaa ghatee bharooni vuralee Sayee Maawoolee   Owaloo aaratee

RajaTamaSathwa tighe maayaa prasawalee ? Mazyawara maayaa prasawalee
Mayecheeye potee kaisee maayaa udbhavalee Owaloo aaratee

SaptaSaagaree kaisa khel maandeelaa ? Baba khel maandeelaa
Khelooniyaa khel awagha visthaar kelaa  Owaloo aaratee

Brahmaandeechee rachanaa keisee daakhavilee dolaa ? Baba daakhavilee dolaa
Tuka hmane maazhaa Swaamee kripaaloo bholaa Owaloo aaratee

Refrain:

My Sadguru Sainath, I lit up the five elements
of my body as a lamp and do your aarti

How has the attributeless taken form. Baba taken form! You fill
every part of existence and still you are full O! Sai Mother. I do Aarti?.

All the three qualities of passion, ignorance, excellence have spread
illusion, have engulfed me with illusion. How has the rest of the
illusory world come into existence, born of this Maya (illusion)

How have you started this divine sport across the seven seas !
Baba started this divine sport! And how has this divine sport
spread over the whole creation!    I do Aarti?.

The Lord has shown me the creation and arrangement of this universe.
Tuka says : My Lord is simple and compassionate.    I do Aarti?.
