Hugging along with love and affection,
Removing your problems due to attraction,
Is the God’s Vel which makes you happy.

The Vel belonging to the Lord of Valli.

The Vel of the form of the God which plays in all hills,
The wealthy Vel which is endeared by the pretty peacock,

Yesterday was Skanda Sashti, the day on which Muruga vanquished Surapadma, Simhamukhasura, and Gajamukhasura. The celebration was shown 'live' in Jaya TV from 5.30 PM.

In Vel Vahuppu, Arunagiri Nathar has specially sung about the ability of the Vel, the Spear, the weapon of Muruga.

Arunachala Siva.

tum ko dekha to ye khayaal aaya
zindagi dhoop tum ghana chaaya

When I saw you this thought came to me
Life is like a hot sun and you are the soothing shade

aaj phir dil ne ik tamanna ki
aaj phir dil ko humne samjhaaya

Today again my heart wished for something
Today again I had to mollify my heart
(Sometimes the heart does not get its desires)

tum chale jaaoge to sochenge
humne kya khoya humne kya paaya

When you leave then I ponder over it
What did I lose what did I gain

hum jise gunguna nahin sakte
waqt ne aisa geet kyoon gaaya

The song that I am even forbidden to hum
Why did fate bring and sang that song for me?

There are countless great personages; my salutations to them all.

Beholding in their lotus-heart
the charm and bearing of the Moon-faced one,
enjoying the Supreme Bliss, (many are the great personages...)

Enjoyer of the singing of Samans! One as handsome as Cupid!
(Many are) the blessed pre-eminent persons.

(Many are) those who (mentally) remaining with the Lord found in the mind, behold well His Form.

(Many are) those who immediately surrender
their heart-lotus at His feet.

(Many are those) on the True Path of highest knowledge, singing and conversing about the Supreme One known as the Sanctifier of the Fallen, who know the ragas, notes and rhythm.

With the gem-studded strings of Hari's virtues shining on their necks,
crores are the devotees in the world,
With understanding, love and compassion,
[many are] those who protect the entire world with their nectarine glances!

(Many are those who are) well-known for continually seeing
in their eyes the lovely Lord with exceedingly charming gait,
attaining horripilation remain delightfully immersed in the Ocean of bliss.

(Many are the great personages) besides: the great Bhagavatas, the blessed sages,
Moon, Sun, sage Sanaka, saga Sanandana,
Lords of the Directions, celestials, attendants of Kubera,
Prahlada, Narada, Thumburu,
Hanuman, Siva, sage Suka,
Brahma, best among Brahmanas,
the supremely holy ones, the eminent persons and the eternal ones
those who always experience Supreme Bliss.

Raghuvara! There are countless great personages who – in order that there could sprout in them the true devotion towards You, joyfully sing the blissful chant of Your virtues, describing the greatness of Your body, Your name, Your might and courage, Your calmness of mind and the truth of words uttered by You, understanding Your mind which disproved the wicked paths; I offer my salutations to all of them.

There are countless great personages who - attaining a very long life and uninterrupted experience of bliss along with joy of Bhaava, Raga and Laya etc., became the benefactors of this Thyagaraja by understanding the secrets of Srimad-Bhagavatam, Ramayana, Srimad-Bhagavad-Gita etc., Vedas, sciences and epics, the secret of the six methods of formal worship like, Saiva and others, the inner minds of thirty-three crores celestials; I offer my salutations to all of them.

At the time their love redoubles,
(many are) those meditate on His name.
(Many are) the true followers
of the one praised by Tyagaraja!

Here are the four verses of Saint Tayumanavar in Akara Bhuvanam, Chidambara Rahasyam.
They are the gems among various gems of Taymanavar. I shall give the English translation
in due course.

Verse 19

If you desire to be enlightened,
Transported into bliss,
Attain the everlasting state
And reach the all pervasive Goal Absolute,
That is the Temple of Compassion,
I shall tell you in order
What you should do. Listen.

"May you reach the heart and state
That knows no attributes
And so live long!

May all the dense ignorance lifting,
You attain knowledge bliss!
May your bonds break asunder!"

Verse 20 of Akara Bhuvanam, Chidambara Rahasyam:

He imparted the silent way of true knowledge
Of sundering the bonds.
That way is devoid of thought,
Devoid of I-ness,
Devoid of space, time and direction,
Devoid of attachment, separation and the rest,
Devoid of speech,
Devoid of day and night appearance,
Devoid of end, beginning and middle,
Devoid of inside and outside,
Devoid of things all.

Verse 21:

''Devoid, devoid'' does not mean
Nothing there is.

There it is, natural and ever
Indescribable is that nature,
Appearing not as ''I'' and ''Thou,''
Form manifestness that comprehends all;

Consuming all ignorance
Like the day that has consumed darkness
Himself successfull
Consuming your own knowledge
And making you as Thine.

As Light within
In silentness will He shine.

Verse 22:
Nothing will it permit to appear
Except it be of its own essence.

Even if one appears
It will disappear like the flame of camphor
Without another land of its own to lodge.
The knower devoid of knowledge
And the object of knowledge
Will slip and slip not away.

Oh! Who shall relate its greatness to whom?
He that has become It,
That alone can say.

A wonderful film song penned by Vaali -

unakkenna mele nindrai ooo nandhalaalaa,
unadhaanai paadugindren naan romba naalaa,

what is for you! you are standing on top, oh god (Nandalaala - Krishna).
I am singing (living) according to your commands, for a long time now!

thaai madiyil pirandhom, tamil madiyil valarndhom,
nadigarena malarndhom, naadagaththil kalandhom,

we were born in the lap of our mother, we grew up in the lap of Tamil,
we blossomed as actors , we became a part of the drama (of life)
(This world is nothing but a drama and we are all actors in it playing our parts)

aadaadha medai illai, podadha vesham illai,
sindhaadha kanneer illai, sirippukku panjam illai,

there is no stage where we have not danced, there is no act that we haven’t donned,
there is no tear that we haven’t shed, there has been no dearth of laughter.

kaal kondu aadum pillai, nool kondu aadum bommai,
un kaiyil andha noolaa nee sollu nandhalaalaa,

we humans, who are dancing with our legs, are mere puppets with strings,
oh god! (do) you hold those strings and make us dance to your tunes(?),

yaaraaro nanban endru emaandha nenjam undu,
poovenru mullai kandu puriyaamal nindren inru,
paal pola kallum undu niraththaale rendum ondru,
naan enna kallaa paalaa nee sollu nandhalaalaa,

we falsely believe many people to be our friends, and get cheated by them,
we see thorns as flowers and fail to comprehend (and stand confused),
both toddy(a liquor, associated with intoxication and evil) and milk
(associated with good, purity) are similar to look at,
am I toddy or milk, tell me oh god!
