Dear Jyoti,

Murugan is one of the ancient Tamizh gods. He is spoken of in Tamizh literature of even 3 Century A.D.
Muruga is normally associated with hills and hill-related plain lands. Abodes like Pazhani, TiruprangunRam,
Pazhamudhi Cholai are all hilly places.  However, Tiruvannamalai has no direct connection with Muruga. The
Big Temple is mainly devoted to Siva and Uma, though shrines for Ganapati and Muruga are also there.

Has Lord Murugan acctuelly a wife?
Usually his brother, Lord Ganesha, is said to be a bachelor.

Dear Jyoti,

Muruga has got two wives. One is Indra's daugher Deivsena. She was given in marriage to Muruga, when Muruga vanquished
three brothers who were demons and who were controlling all gods including Brahma and Vishnu. The second wife is VaLLi, a
huntress, and she represents all jivas, who love the Self (Muruga) and want to merge with Him.  However, in North India, Muruga
who is called Kartikeya is a bachelor.
