Sattvic, rajasic and tamasic foods
« on: February 21, 2012, 02:34:06 PM »
This topic is very unkown to me and I would appreciate if you tell me what are these foods? I read some articles on the subject but they all differ. Some say that a sattvic food can become tamasic if it is too cooked for example. Or that not all plants are sattvic. Or the sugar is rajasic, other source say it is sattvic and so on. So which foods belong to these three groups? Please enlighten me.

Thank you very much Sri Subramanianji. What about coffee, garlic, wine or vinegar? Most articles I read say that coffee is rajasic, some say garlic is tamasic, other that it is rajasic. Wine is supposed to be tamasic? If it is true does moderate use of these foods and drinks interfere with daily practice?

Dear ramana,

All liquor varieties since they make your mind go in stupor, are prohibited. Though Sri Bhagavan did not specifically speak about
liquor, he prohibited ganga (cannabis) which also makes your mind go in stupor. So we can take that liquor also is prohibited.

Sri Bhagavan approved onions but not garlics. However garlics can be used as a medicine, according to Him.
