Meditation vs Sleep
« on: January 05, 2012, 05:53:10 AM »
Namaste,

I am a devotee of Bhagavan and I have started meditation recently.

Yesterday I have meditated about 40minutes; I remember thoughts coming and going during first 20 minutes but I don't remember anything about the last 20 minutes.

My question is, did I sleep during the last 20 minutes or is it part of meditation. At the end, I found myself sitting in same posture in which I started meditation. As I said I don't remember anything about last 20 minutes.
Please provide me your valuable inputs.

Thank you,
mrkanth

Dear mrkanath,

Your meditation practice may not be a sleep. But for many, during meditation, sleep comes. When the mind is rested,
it makes to go to sleep.  Sri Bhagavan Himself has confirmed this in cases of  many devotees. But this can be overcome,
only by continuing the meditation, even "after the so called sleep" in between.

Dear srkudai,

Yes. Sri Ramana knew after His death experience, that He has reached the goal.  He was quite sure about it.  The pulsating "I-I"
within was enough proof for Him. It was not sleep. He acted as if He was dead and He lied down as if He was sleeping, with eyes
closed.
