Quote
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
John 15:1-8

Nothing is possible without the Grace of the Guru who is God in human form. Without the Grace of the Lord we cannot even breathe, we would be like withered branches. Any other interpretation are very wellcome.  :)

Dear ramana,

Guru is the bridge between Jiva and Godhead. Satyamangalam Venkataramana Iyer
in his Ramana Sadguru song says that Sri Bhagavan is the word "asi" in Tattvam asi
Mahavakya, that which connects tat, Self and tvam, You.

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we don’t know where You are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.” Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” Jesus answered: “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

I think that Jesus' words are clear enough.

Beautiful Ramana...

This is simple & profound, any lay man can understand, with off-course, proper discernment of Who/What "Son" is and Who/What "Father" is

Dear Ramana,

Can you please let me know if there are any quote about "Non Doership" in Bible? The parallels for "I am not the Doer, But Thou Art!"

The abandonment of "Not me, my, I etc... but only Thou" etc,

Thanks in advance

One quote comes in my mind right now:

Quote
Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? The words I say to you are not just My own. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, Who is doing His work.

Thank you Ramana, I was asking as I wanted to get this idea to one of my friends who is a christian. There is huge difference in just knowing that God is doing his work and discerning that God is the real doer, and this truth about "non doership"

Proper discernment is very much necessary for every persons of all religions to be able to 'see' the 'truth' without borrowed ideas out of just hearsay from bland sermons.

I watched a movie titled "Into great silence". It presents the life of christian monks who live high in the French Alps. Anyone who wants can find the movie. Here some of the quotes in it:

Quote
"Behold the silence: allow the Lord to speak one word in us, that He is."

Quote
You shall seek Me, and you shall find Me. Because you seek Me with all your heart, I will let Myself be found.

Quote
Anyone who does not give up all he has cannot be My disciple.

Quote
I am the One who is.

Jesus says: "I will destroy this house [viz. the body], and no one will be able to build it again."
Gospel of Thomas, verse 71

This seems contrary to the Chrurch teachings about resurrection. The cause for that is the misunderstanding of the word "resurrection". According to the Gospel of Philip, which is not included in the Bible as the Gospel of Thomas, resurrection is spiritual:
Quote
"People who say they will first die and then arise are mistaken.  If they do not first receive resurrection while they are alive, once they have died they will receive nothing."

Quote
When Jesus saw the crowd around Him, He gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.

Then a teacher of the law came to Him and said, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.”

Another disciple said to Him, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” But Jesus told him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”
Matthew 8:18-22

"The Son of Man has no place to lay His head" because He is everywhere. And at the same time He is beyond time and space.

“Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.” Those who don't follow Jesus (I am the Way, the Truth and the Life) are already dead. That's the same what Lord Krishna says in Gita:

Quote
But those who carp at My teaching and do not practise it, deluded in all knowledge and devoid of discrimination, know them to be doomed to destruction (dead).
