Quote
Sri Bhagavan says Bhakti is Jnana mata, bhakti is the mother of Jnana. Bhakti comes first and then Jnana.

Then how can one be liberated through Self-enquiry without surrender?

:) it may rather look like an innocent observation, but isn't there so much truth in it?

Self Enquiry tames the hard head, buckles it down, humbles it, and kills it.

haha  :D it desires to become a 'jnani' 'brahman' but its desire can never be fulfilled!

Self Enquiry is a long knife which asks the holder of the knife to chop ones own head off!

Exactly! :D So the most Vedantists (in my view, sorry, I don't want to offend anybody) are not better than yogis who long for siddhis.

yes, very true Hari, i am unable to disagree with you.

it seems to be that they are interested in Jnana Siddhi, rather than 'Jnanam' itself, if it has to be observed.

I must confess that in the beginning when I learned about Maharishi's philosophy I became so self-righteous. I thought "I got the the highest teaching, to the highest truth. The poor ignorant people" (something like 'thank you God that I am a christian' :D). If I had living Guru at that time I am sure He would hit me with a stick :D. But then I realized what a fool I am. I realized for myself that Ramana's path is even above His teachings. His highest teaching is Silence and all other teachings of Him are due to the temperament and the spiritual advancement of the sadhaka. Today I realized that Sri Ramana's Silence is the living proof of the Taoist's Truth "The Tao that can be spoken is not the eternal Tao". Silence is even more direct path than Self-enquiry, the best one! But can we be silent in the midst of the noice of the world? :)

Ulladu Naarpadu Anubandham 27:

Seeming to have enthusiasm and delight, seeming to have excitement and aversion, seeming to exercise initiative and perseverance, and yet without attachment, play, O hero, in the world. Released from all bonds of attachment and with equanimity of mind, acting outwardly in all situations in accordance with the part you have assumed, play as you please, O hero, in the world.

"FIRST MORAL

Good manners are not easy
they need a little care,
but when we least expect it
bring rewards both rich and rare.

SECOND MORAL

Brute force or bribes of diamonds
bend others to your will,
but gentle words have greater power
and gain more conquests still."

"O Christ – Thou Rarest Flower of Hearts. O Thou Great Lover of error-torn brothers – as unseen monument of the mightiest miracle of love was established in each heart when the magic wand of Thy Voice uttered: "Forgive them, for they know not what they do." O Shepherd of Souls, wandering hearts are of themselves seeking the one fold of divine devotion. We have heard the ever-calling music of Thy infinite kindness. Our one desire is to be at home with Thee, to receive the Cosmic Father with joyous, open eyes of wisdom, and to know that we are all sons of our own One God."
(Paramahansa Yogananda, excerpts from the original 1929 edition of Whispers From Eternity)
