Urge to hold the breath!

Dear All,

During the self enquiry, when mind becomes still - there is an urge to hold the breath - why this happens?

Dear Ramakrishnan,

I too have observed this in my case as well.

But, the trick is in ignoring it, and persist focusing on your Self. It only meant that your attention to Self is lost that moment and which is why you were able to see that urge to hold your breath otherwise you are in absolute concentration. It only means there has been a break in concentration on Self! These are all tricks of the mind which has the tendency to go outwards!

Just renew your attention on your Self and this urge will disappear. If you notice this urge then it only indicates that attention is NOT 100%

If the attention is completely focused, we will not be able to see all these, to register these urges! Hope you are able to see from this angle :)

Helpers:

  • Watch who is it that wants to hold the breath!
  • Watch your breath, breathe normally and just keep watching your breath rhythm and renew Self Enquiry consciously!

Salutations to Bhagavan

This is something which i often come across, as beloved Nagaraj said we will have to keep practising.  Our mind itself has a desire to check to see whether we are doing things correctly or not... when it sprangs up with a small gap to do this check, we immediately feel like our breath wad held for sometime or we will find difficult to hodl our breath...

that's y it is said, even the desire of attaining self should be understood properly and given up at the right time when we are matured enough to realize that Self is We and nothing to be attained..

Thanks for sharing this.. i see we are moving in right direction with Bagwan's grace !

With love

In the first post, you said 'urge to hold breath.'  This urge is again
mental and it should be curbed.  Sri Bhagvan says Kevala Kumbhakam,
i.e retaining breath for sometime during enquiry, without any mental
effort is okay.
