Puranas

Are Puranas divided to Sattvic, Rajasic and Tamasic? Is that true or it's just vaishnava interpretation? How could a Sacred text be tamasic or rajasic?

Dear Ramana1359

The external world is a direct reflection of our inner Self.

If we look with Tamasic eyes, the puranas are Tamasic,
with Rajasic, its Rajasic,
with Satwic, its Satwic.

The Subject makes the object.

If a person is Satwic, He sees even the worst Tamasic object as Satwic, as a leela of the Lord

Dear Ramana 1359,

Traditionally Brahma is considered Sattvic, Vishnu as Rajasic and
Siva is considered as Tamasic. Perhaps based on this, all Puranas
that speak of Brahma is called Sattva Puranas, Vishnu Puranas are
called Rajasic and Siva Puranas are called Tamasic.

Nagaraj, Subramanian.R, I undestand but

if Shiva Puranas are Tamasic or Vishnu Puranas are rajasic why should we read them? Why did Vyasa narrate them at all? Aren't all of us strive to be sattvic because this way it's easier to do our sadhana? It's something like sectarian views to me. According to Padma purana - Vaishnava Puranas are Sattvic, Brahma - rajasic and Shaiva - tamasic.

Dear Ramana1359,

In my humble opinion No Puranas are either Satwic or Rajasic or even Tamasic. It is actually a mis information, whereever you may have read it from.

In my humble opinion, Puranas are "Divine Light of Knowledge"

There is no question of Satwic or Rajasic or Tamasic in it.

Satwic, Rajasic and Tamasic are only the attributes of "Mind" for humans, and does not apply to Puranas or any Scriptures!

Dear Ramana 1359,

All these classifications are only by others. As if they have no other work.
All Gods are sattvic.
