What is Bhagavan's word regarding the rituals on/ after one's physical death?

Dear Swaroop,

Sri Bhagavan recommended all rituals and funeral ceremonies to be performed as
long as one is not still self realized.  Once when Sivaprakasam Pillai came to Him,
having a tonsured head [like an ascetic], He told him: "Do not leave the acharams
[practices], it will create misery for you."   M. Sivaparaksasam Pillai was having a
tuft of hair earlier. He was a Saiva Siddhanti, belonging to Pillai caste and they were
like brahmins only.  So Sri Bhagavan said: "Don't leave your practices."  He permitted
separate rows in the lunch hall for brahmins and non brahmins.  He once told Kavyakanta's
son, who was having a long flowing hair, "What!  You are the son of Nayana. How can you
have a long hair like a drama artist?  Go and have a tuft of hair and come."

He said all practices as per one's religion should be followed.  When Muruganar became
fit for self realization, the same Sri Bhagavan made fun of him for doing annual ceremonies
for his mother  He asked Muruganar: What! Have you not left these [practices] still?"
Muruganar stopped such practices thereafter.

Arunachala Siva.
