ULLadu Narpadu - 184
« on: June 14, 2010, 09:38:42 AM »

Let us now see Verse 29 of ULLadu Narpadu:-

Bhagavan's  Original Tamil Version:

Naan endru vaayaal navilatdu uL aazh manattal
Naan endru engu undum ena naadudale janana neri
yaam andri andridu naan adu aam endru unnal tunai
yaam  adu vicharam aama?

Kavyakanta Ganapati Muni's Sanskrit Version:-

Maunen majjan manasaa svamoola-
Charchaiva satyaatma vicharnam syaat |
Eso'ham etan-nna mama svarupam
Iti pramaa satya-vicharanaangam ||

Sri Lakshmana Sarma's Sanskrit Version:-

Ruddhvaa vaanmanasi ubhe chitirahamrupa kva bhaatityalam
Buddhyaa'nvisya nimajjanam hrdi nijajnaanaaptaye saadhanam |
Deho naayamaham svayam tadahamityevam nididhyaasanam
Anvesaangamavehi kim nu bhavitaa so'yam vicharo nijah ||

Simple meaning:

Not chanting aloud 'I', 'I' but with the mind diving deep within,
to enquirem seek and know, whence this 'I' arises is the sadhana
in the path of Jnana (Supreme Wisdom). Instead, to meditate with
an imagined attitude of "I am not this body; I am That (Brahman)", is a helpful aid, but can it suffice by itself as a direct sadhana of
Atma Vichara or Self-enquiry?
