The Mahapuja or the Samadhi Anniversary of the Mother of Bhagavan
Ramana, is celebrated every year in summer, on the ninth day of the
dark half of the solar month Vaikasi, May-June.  This is Vaikasi
Krishna Paksha Navami, i.e this year, it is 6th June 2010.  On that
day came the solemn hour, the final liberation for the Mother Azhagamma. 

There are two main items in the programme of this annual celebration.  One is the feeding of the visitors and the poor on a
large scale.  The other is the special worship of the Matrubhuteswara Lingam, that is installed over the masonry work sealing the interred remains of the blessed Mother.  The name
Matrubhuteswara (Iswara who is the Mother), was given by Kavya-
kanta Ganapati Muni.  The date of Her liberation was May, 19, 1922.

Let us see the meaning of the Samadhi and the worship of the Lingam and the general feeding.  First about the feeding.  Generally,
food is given as a matter of charity as service to the poor i.e. service of God in the poor.  When the feeding is associated with a great name, a saint or a religious institution, the religious man who does not believe in this form of charity learns to tolerate it!  This
poor feeding is called Maaheswara Puja or Narayana Seva.  The feeding of the visitors by some outside is called Bhiksha Vandanam.

Now, let us see if the feeding in Sri Ramanasramam is undertaken as a matter of pity for the poor or if there is anything else behind this act of charity.   Even on ordinary days, it is difficult for the visitor to return from the Asramam without the impression that the Maharshi evinces keen interest in feeding not only the hungry stomachs, but looks pleased to see that the visitor, whatever his status, avails himself of the opportunity of taking a meal at the Asramam and this is no notwithstanding the impersonal character of His dealings with men and things, of His general outlook on life, which is the inevitable expression of intense deep life of the Truth, He is centered in.  Those who visit the Asramam frequently,  or have made a few days' stay, have often testified tom the unusual appetite for food they experience which is a special feature of the Asramam atmosphere and most of the devotees, even when they are on flying visits, would not forego the privilege of having a meal at the Asramam, as it is consecrated, sanctified by the very air of the Asramam, permeated by the Presence of Bhagavan Ramana. 

{There are many instances like those of Devaraja Mudaliar, Manavasi Ramaswamy Iyer and others, who had some ailments which prevented them from taking normal food, were advised by Bhagavan Ramana to eat at the Asramam and they had it and they found that their health regarding their stomachs had miraculously improved.}               

If these facts are borne in mind, it will be easy to understand the significance of a number of people being fed daily and of larger numbers being fed on special occasions, like Bhagavan's Jayanti, Bhagavan's Maha Nirvana Day, Mahadeepam Day etc., Indeed the Asramites and devotees of Bhagavan take so much interest in such feedings because there is the common belief, a general understanding, the food of the Asramam is prasad in a true sense
of the word, an active symbol of the spiritual gift, a material vehicle of the awakening influence and gracious glance emanating from the presiding Presence, namely Bhagavan Ramana.
