Ramana Maharshi Comments Regarding About Birth Control
« on: May 24, 2010, 01:48:19 PM »
Talk 69.

There were reports of the above said Professor’s University lectures in the Hindu. The lecturer had emphasised the necessity for birth control and discussed the various possibilities of making the man feel his responsibilities so that birth control might be automatic.

The Master,on hearing it, casually remarked. “Let them find out the method of dying.” [Here death refers to that of the ego (ahankar).]

Dear prasanth,

Yes.  Bhagavan Ramana never approved birth-control, through
medicines and abortions.  He rather approved sexual-abstinence
for householders, after two or three children were born.  In those
days, it was natural for couple to have three to ten children, since
price of commodities were cheap for feeding them and overall
price level of anything was affordable for middle class parents.
Of course, there was famine and poverty in India and economically
lower classes suffered a lot. Bhagavan Ramana, in such cases,
recommended individual help to persons or families, rather than
doing it as a social movement.

Arunachala Siva.
