Saints who wanted rebirth again!
« on: May 03, 2010, 09:26:50 AM »
There are several facets in bhakti, devotion.  Bhagavan Ramana
says that the matured devotion, in the form of self surrender
results in total loss of ego, and there would be nothing but
godhead.  Then, who is to ask, what?

But some saints have sung to Siva or Narayana that they should
be born again and again to see him, and enjoy the bliss of darshan.
This may be just a pageant, to highlight the facet of bhakti in
self-surrender.

Saint Tirunavukkarasar says in one of his Tevaram songs:

"I am now seeing your dancing eyebrows, coral like lips,
a cryptic small smile, I see your matted locks with chill Ganga,
I see the milky white Vibhuti on your forehead, and I see your
ever-sweet raised golden leg!  If I get this divine vision for
ever, then even this birth as a human being is wanted again and
again!"

This is on the vision of Nataraja, the dancing Siva.

Saint-poetess AndaL says in her Tiruppavai, (this is towards
Narayana):

Not only in this birth but also for another 7 X7 births, we shall
be born again and serve only you with nothing else to do;
kindly snap all our other desires.

Saint Tirunavukkarasar again says in one of his Tevaram songs:

If I be born as a worm, I should not forget your meritorious feet,
O Lord of Tirupadiri Puliyur!  (today Cuddalore, in Tamil Nadu)

Arunachala Siva.
