What is Self-attention?

Sri Ramana Maharshi:

"What is essential in any sadhana [practice] is to try to bring back the running mind and fix it on one thing only. Why then should it not be brought back and fixed in Self-attention? That alone is Self-enquiry (atma-vichara). That is all that is to be done!"



So what is Self-attention. It cannot be attention to any object observed by the senses nor it can be attention to the mind because they are not Self.

Yes.  You have correctly stated the Self Attention.  The question
Who am I? comes only when the mind goes outwards, towards
the world, beings and the objects.  In Self Attention, that is done
without interruption, the question Who am I? need not be there.

But how can I keep attention in the Self? Papaji said to keep quiet and Bhagavan said to just be, is that it?

Dear Joey,

Just Be-ing  or Keeping quiet is the thoughtless state, since
one is fixing his attention only to the Self and not to the objects
and beings outside.  Summa Iru is the state of fixing the attention
to the Self, permanently.  It is Self Attention.
