ULLadu Narpadu - 1 & 2 - Paraphrase
« on: April 04, 2010, 02:13:43 PM »
Let us move on to the first verse of ULLadu Narpadu after giving
a paraphrase of the first two invocatory verses.  The paraphrase
is from T.R. Kanakammal's book, known for its simple rendering of the meaning and purport.

Verse 1:-

ULLadu alladu ULLa unarvu uLLatho.....

Can there be awareness of Existence, as "I am" but for the
existence of Sat (the Reality) 'That which is.'?  As the Sat,
"That which is" abides in the Heart, free of thoughts , it is
called the Heart.  Who is the one who meditates on It and
how?  Know then, to be as "It is" in the Heart, free from
thoughts, is to contemplate on It truly.

Verse 2:-

Marana bhayam mikkulLa am makkal aran aaha......

Those people possessed of virtue and pursuing the discipline
of enquiry, but with intense dread of death, to overcome that
fear, take as fit refuge, the birthless, deathless Mahesa's feet,
that shine as the fortress of safety.  Such people who have
thus surrendered, become dead to their jiva-bhava, (self-hood,
I or ego) with their bondage of all attachments (mine) destroyed.
Will such jivanmuktas (the liberated souls) who have become deathless, ever again entertain the thought of death?
