Sri Devi Kaalottaram - 3
« on: February 07, 2010, 10:09:36 AM »
Verses 16 and 17 of Sri Devi Kaalottaram:-

Kumbhakam manatrajaalam cha praanaayaadi dhaaranaam |
Sarvametanna kartavyam mokshamakshayamichataa ||

Naatrapoojaa namaskaaro na japodhyaanameva cha |
Kevalam jneyamityukatam veditavayam na kinchana ||

Those who seek for the everlasting liberation need not endeavour
to practise repetition and countless diverse mantras (repeating
potent scriptural words or texts to gain various ends), and
methods of yoga such as breath control (pranayama), breath
retention (kumbhaka), and concentration.

There is no room for performing puja (worship of duties), namaskarams (paying homage like prostration), Japa (incantation),
dhyana (contemplation) and so on.  Hear from me, that the
highest truth acclaimed in the Vedas, can be known only through
Jnana, there is absolutely no need to know anything oustide oneself.

Bhagavan Ramana, to various devotees, have said that Self
enquiry is the easiest way to realize the Self.  Though He did
not speak against mantra japa, meditation etc., He always
highlighted the Atma Vichara, as the most sublime.

Arunachala Siva.
