The Complete Brahma Jnana Guru
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:19:09 AM »
Bhagavan Ramana is the complete Brahma Jnana Guru.  Different
people from different walks of life, having practised different
sadhsas come to Him and He did suitable midcourse corrections
to bring them around to the self enquiry.  Sri Krishna Bhikshu lists
out such devotees in his Sri Ramana Leela.

1. Pazhani Swami was the first one.  He was an innocent bhakta,
totally devoted to Bhagavan Ramana.  He did not do much of reading
and Bhagavan Ramana had to read the books and explain for his
sake.  He even tried to quell his mind in the Heart, at the time of
death but because of his vasanas, the Jiva rushed out of his eyes.
Bhagavan Ramana said that he would have attained a higher birth
to complete his self enquiry.

2. Lakshmi Ammal, the famous Echammal, who got out of the torment of samsara, due to Bhagavan Ramana's grace.

3. Manavasi Ramaswamy Iyer was beset with illness and Bhagavan
cured his illness to pusue his sadhana.

4. Natananada simply had the samskara of the East and he had
to be cleaned up.

5. Sivaprakasam Pillai who has done his philosophy post graduation
had the samskara of the West and he had to be cleaned up.

6. Seshayya was balanced and it did not require much work for
Bhagavan to set him right on his path of Jnana.

7. Lakshmi Ammal had practised Ashtanga Yoga and she had to
be brought into the path of Jnana.

8.  Mahalakshmi Ammal had the ocean of sorrows but her mind got
quelled by Bhagavan Ramana.

9.  Humphreys belonged to the Siddha school but Bhagavan Ramana suitably corrected him to pursue Jnana through his own Christian
religion.

10. Kavyakanta Ganapati Sastri had the expertise of mantra sastra
and he had to be told about the quiscence of mind, the source of
all mantras.

11. Devaraja Mudaliar came around easily but he had his own
vacillations about the anubhuti, the experience.  Bhagavan Ramana told him to surrender and leave the job to Him.

12. Sri Sadhu Om was with Mata Janakiamma with devotional
technqiues and he moved into self enquiry easily.

Dear Subramaniyan ji

You have not written about Mother Azhagammai. Till her last breath Bhagavan kept  one palm on her crown place another one on her heart.
She could attained samadhi. How many mothers could have this golden chance. It is doubtful whether Kowsalya and Yasodha had or not.
But our Azhagammai did lots of tapas to give birth and have a brahma jnani son. In this kaliyuga she is so fortunate. Many young ladies wish
to have a boy child who would turn to be a professional. That is all. Sometimes I used to think instead of praying to Garbharashamibika it is
good to pray to Mother Azhagammai to give a child like Ramana.
But after going through self enquirey it does not give any meaning :D

Dear Ramanaduli,

Sri Krishna Bhikshu's list in Sri Ramana Leela, the names of
Mother Azhagammal and Annamalai Swami do not find a place.
WE can say that as per scriptures a true sannyasi's 21 generations
before and after attain Mukti.  But Bhagavan Ramana also did His
duty to her.  She was very orthodox with brahmin and non brahmin
differences, total bodily purity like not taking food without bath,
properly initiated Siva Panchakshari mantra etc.,  But this was not
adequate as Bhagavan Ramana would know the truth.  Hence He
had to do a special job.  Similarly Annamalai Swami was a totally
faithful servant of Bhagavan Ramana.  He even had differences with
Sarvadikari Chinnaswamy but did not care for the differences because Bhagavan Ramana's words were alone important for him.
Perhaps, his fame was not known to authors upto Bhagavan's
Maha Nirvana, since he was considered only as a sadhak but not
enlightened.

What about pazhnisamy.  I read in tamil book a book called Sri Ramana Maharishi. There Bhagavan says Himself, it was possible in Mother's case where
it was not with Pazhnisamy. When Pazhnisamy's end was nearing even though Bhagavan tried the same method what He did for His mother, it did not
work out because Pazhnisawmy opened his eyes and he passed away. It is beautifully explained how Mother passed away. While Bhagavan was near to her
keeping His hands on her head and on her heart, all her latent dencies were all cleared away and She attained Mukthi. From this I understand that
for an ordinary person the prana goes through any one of the nava dwara. Mostly I have seen in movies, as soon as one dies, someone will close the
eyes of dead person. So far i have not got the chance to see dying person in my life. In my childhood people used to chant vishnu sahasranamam and kids
were kept away. That is why I asked question how to prepare for the end. I think, when the life becomes meditation with full awareness no support system
is not required. So we have to be with full awareness always. When we chant God's name with full awareness, we becomes awareness only. Then the play
gets over.

Dear srkudai,

Chinnaswami, the Sarvadikari and Bhagavan's brother passed
away only in 1953.  So Bhagavan Ramana did not say anything
about that.  Others have also not specifically mentioned about
that.  He was interrred and there is a Samadhi also for Chinnaswami,
he was called Shri Niranjananda Swami, within the Asramam compound, in front of Mother's Temple.

Dear Ramanadul0i,
0
1. I have mentioned Pazhani Swami's name first in the list.

2. In case of both Mother Azhagamma and Pazhaniswami, there
were Vasanas till the end.  But Bhagavan Ramana, by placing
His hands on the skull and chest, brought the Vasanas to quell
in the Heart, in case of Mother.   She had gone through, like
a quick video play the future births and got satisfied herself and remained without vasanas. This is as per the statement of Bhagavan Himself.  In case of Pazhani Swami, Bhagavan did a similar thing.  But the hands were taken away a little earlier, and a few vasanas that were remaing escaped through the opened eyes. Bhagavan Ramana became careful and did the proceedure completely without taking away His hands.

3.  For all of us, the vasanas, many or less would remain till the end.  Chanting god's names would be of help.  But we have to have
Bhagavan Ramana beside us, to do the quelling completely!
In fact, I pray like this everyday, even if you think I am a fool!
One Vasana made Jadabharata to be born as a deer, as you know.

Dear srkudai,

yes, exactly. The difficulty arises when one imagines that it is so difficult and this is a trick of the mind that everything is difficult. Therefore this amazing heritage left by Bhagavan Ramana - 'who am I?' washes all the imaginations of "difficulties", "impossibilities", "doubts"... We can say that Faith is just being oneself without a second while sadhana is to remove those seconds...

Dear Udai ji

You may be practicing for long time and it looks it is not so difficult. Truely speaking after watching the vasanas, I feel mind is higher than Himalayas.
I wounder is it possible when our end is nearing. That time our memory may fade, It is very shaky to think whether I could empty my bag. Those devotees were
so fortunate to have Bhagavan beside them. The constant practice is the only way to come out.

Many say brahma vidhya is very difficult. But when I read Bhagavan's books It says it is easy but  I thought it is not for housewives like me. From this discussion once again
I got cleared so many doubts. And started doing atma vichar along with my age old other practices. Sometimes after going through Udai ji's points, I wounder
is it so simple.? I cannot believe it. Just simply watching the mind and having conviction I am awarness". It gives the feeling like when a begger gets a big lottery.

Dear Ramanaduli,

Yes.  The beggar getting a lottery example is also told by
Brahmasri Nochur Venkataraman.  Once a woodcutter got
a lottery of say, Rs 100 lacs.  The lottery company sent his
representative to "prepare" the woodcutter to receive the money,
lest it should cause him a heart attack.  The rep came and
said:  Swami, what will you do if you get Rs 10000/-?  The wood-
cutter smiled and said:  Do not kid me.  If I still get as you say,
I shall repair my hut and buy a new axe.  Then the rep went on
increasing the amounts to Rs 1 lac, Rs 10 lacs, and finally to
Rs 100 lacs.  The woodcutter lost his patience and said:  Do
not disturb me.  I am already late for my today's work.  "If
I get Rs 100 lacs, I shall give 50% to you, are you happy?"

The rep fell down unconscious!

We cannot even ask properly.  It is better to leave it to God
and receive what God gives.  Then there are no heart attacks.

Dear Ramanaduli,

A baby arrives. The mother and father will repeat "papa" "mama" and when the baby will eventually say "mama" the mother will be very happy. With time the baby will come to fully accept that this person is his mother, father. He will furthermore accept that he is a boy and his name is nonduel, Skrudai, Ramanaduli etc. And in the following years he will accept that he is an Hindu, an American, living in that city etc.

You get the point!

Before all this started, what was he??? He was "pure consciousness". He didn't know that he was all of that. All that was added and believed.

""I thought it is not for housewives like me""

The difficulty lies only in accepting what the Guru tells us.
The Guru tells you that you are not what you were lead to believe but you are Brahman. It's only a case of mistaken identity. Like the King who believe he was a beggar. There is NOTHING to change, you don't have to RECOVER what you are, you don't have to RE-ATTAIN yourself.

So where is the difficulty in Being? Where is the difficulty in Being what you ARE? The difficulty is only in the mind...You are NOT the mind!  (Sri Anamalai).

Love
Oh Arunachala, blazing fire of Jnana, in my heart I pray and think of Thee from afar, root out the ego, merging me in the Self.
