Give up the possessor too!
« on: September 30, 2009, 01:00:22 PM »
Swami Rajeswarananda, a sannyasi, spoke in Sri Sankara TV
channel last afernoon.  He was explaining a few verses from
Srimad Bhagavad Gita and then also quoted from Bhagavan
Ramana's life and teachings.  He is in fact the disciple of Yogi
Ramaiah, a direct devotee of Bhagavan Ramana from 1930s.  Swami
has spent 10 years in Tiruvannamalai under the guidance of Yogi
Ramaiah.  Incidentally, Yogi Ramaiah came to Bhagavan Ramana
at the time of Paul Bruton's first visit to Ramana.

Once Paul Brunton asked Bhagavan Ramana: "To attain enlghtenment, should I give up all possessions?"  Bhagavan
Ramana had said in reply:  "Give up the possessor too!"

In fact, the possessor should go first.  Possessions may come
and go and it is left to destiny.

Once Kavyakanta Ganapti Sastri told Bhagavan Ramana:
"I think we can live with just Rs 3/- per month and do Atma
Vichara.  Nothing else is required."  (It was in 1920s).
Bhagavan Ramana smiled and said:  "Nayana!  For Atma
Vichara, even body is not necessary.  Body in fact, is a concession!"

Saint Manikkavachagar sings in Tiruvavchakam:

"I am thinking only the begging bowl and the codpiece are my
possessions.  I am ever melting in the heart. I am finding the
only true posession that is Siva's feet. This body and the life
are dancing in me.  I have found the blissful dancing of Master
of Thillai (Chidambaram)."  Kula Pathu, Decad of joyful cry. V. 1.

Arunachala Siva.
