Guru is Sishyavith tapahaari
« on: September 23, 2009, 12:30:57 PM »
It is said that a Guru is Sishyavith tapahaari, the one who
removes the tapa or anxiety and misery of the mature disciple.
Bhagavan Ramana did exactly the same thing, whenever sincere
seekers came to Him.  He removed the anxieties and miseries,
many a times, with a single gaze for a few minutes, or by answering
someone else's question.  Devaraja Mudaliar mentions about it
in his Day by Day and Recollections.

But today, many gurus are sishya vithtapahaari, they quitely
empty the pockets of the disciples.  Vithapahaari is one
who steals the possessions.  Such gurus abound in today's
India.  Give me this donation, give me that donation, give me
money for building hospitals, give me money for starting
schools, give me money for conducting mass weddings!........

Thank god, such gurus do not ask money for producing a
good Hindi or Tamil film!

Arunachala Siva.
