Guru protecting the devotee
« on: September 18, 2009, 12:39:22 PM »
The Guru, normally cannnot ward off the evil that is waiting for a devotee or a disciple or even wishes it away.  Prarabdha is bound to
take it course.  But Gurus like Sankara and Bhagavan Ramana
have protected their devotees by keeping them with them or helping them in some other way, because Prarabdha cannot
act in a Jnani's Presence.

Padmapada had to experience the evil effect of Prarabhda when
he visited down South to Sri Rangam, his native place.  His uncle,
jealous of Padmapada, gave him unmatha flower juice along with
the food and Padmapada became mad. He came weeping and laughing to Sankara.  Sankara who had earlier warned him not to
take trip to South pitied him.  However, Sankara kept his hand
on Padmapada's head and cooled him and cured him from madness.  Sankara then recited to Padmapada the famous Pancha-
Padika text, which Padmapada had forgotten during his seizure.

Bhagavan Ramana was once told by Rangan (His school-mate)
that as per astrological forecasts, there is some bad period for
him.  Bhagavan Ramana told him to stay with Him inside the Asramam, for a few months.  He did not even permit Rangan to
go out of the Asramam premises.  If Rangan had to definitely go out, then, Bhagavan Ramana told him to come back with in a couple of hours and He used to enquire others:  Whether Rangan has come back, whether Rangan has come back?  Thus Bhagavan Ramana
took care of Rangan for a few months before he left for Madurai.
