Uma Sahasram
« on: July 27, 2009, 11:39:26 AM »
As you all know that Kavyakanta Ganapati Muni composed Hara
Sahasram and Uma Sahasram.  Hara Sahasram was composed
earlier.  He wanted to write 1000 verses in Sanskrit on Uma
and he had given word to Big Temple authorities that he would
read it on a particular day in the Temple premises.  He started
dictating the verses to his four disciples in Mango Tree Cave, on
November 26, 1907.  In the first nineteen days, he could complete
only 700 verses.  Bhagavan Ramana was with him in Mango Tree
Cave.  On the last day, he had to complete 300 verses, but he
had a few days earlier developed a boil on his right hand thumb.

A doctor had a dream in Madras with Siva instructing him to rush
to Tiruvannamalai, to do the surgery for Kavyakanta Ganapati Muni.
He rushed to Tiruvannamalai and completed the surgery and fixed
a bandage.  Still Kavyakanta could not write anything, but his pain
had totally subsided.

Kavyakanta sat before Bhagavan Ramana around 8 pm.  Bhagavan
was sitting in front of him, with His eyes closed.  By midnight
Kavyakanta Ganapati could dictate the remaining 300 verses!
Bhagavan Ramana then opened His eyes and asked:  Nayana!
Have you taken down everything?  Kavyakanta could not control
his tears and prostrated before Him and sang an extempore sloka
on his Guru's grace!

Kavyakanta Ganapati made several changes later in the first
700 verses, but he never touched the last 300 verses.

Echamma had been serving food both to Bhagavan Ramana and
Kavyakanta on these days in Mango Tree Cave.

Arunachala Siva.
