Sri Arunachala Pancharatnam - 2
« on: July 19, 2009, 02:04:00 PM »
There are only two ways to realize the Self.  The first is Self
Enquiry.  The second is Saranagati.  For both, the Guru or God's
abundance grace, anughraha is needed with out fail.  Grace
is needed more for the one who follows the path of Sarangati,
because he is already expressing his helplessness in doing
self enquiry.

So Bhagavan Ramana starts with the Grace aspect first, the
Anugraha Lakshanam of the Brahman or the God or the Guru
in verse 1 of SAP.  This Grace is abundant in Brahman.  In
fact the Brahman is the Grace and Love.  Anbe Sivam said
Tirumoolar.  Siva is another name for Grace.

This Karuna or AruL or Grace is mentioned by Bhagavan Ramana
in many places of Sri Arunachala Stuti Panchakam.  He begins
His Sri Arunachala Padigam:  " Karunaiyal Ennai Andu Kondu
AruLi...."  You have taken over me with your Grace.  (Verse 1)

He says in Sri Arunachala Aksharamana Malai:    "Giri Uruvahiya
Krupai Kadale...."  'Oh, the Ocean of Mercy that appears as a
Hill'.  (Verse 17)  He calls Arunachala as Suka-Kadal, the Ocean
of Grace in Verse 31.  He is not only Grace but makes that Grace
swell in the devotee.  When the Grace swells within, the words
cease to issue forth.  Bhagavan also says that Arunachala is
Poorna-manam.  The total mind, or the total fragrance.  This
Poorna Manam, total fragrance comes from within once the Grace
fills the heart.  He says in Verse 101:  Ambuvil Ali pol Anbu uru
unil enai anbak karaithu Arul Arunachala.  'Like a bit of ice is
melted by the water, your Grace will melt me and I become Grace,
like ice becomes water in water!  He again says in Verse 102:
"Arunai enru enna yan arul kanni patten un arul valai thappumo
Arunachala"  - 'The moment I thought of Arunachala, I become
caught in your net of love or Grace, how I can escape your net
of Grace?'

Bhagavan Ramana again stresses the aspect of Grace of Arunachala
in Verse 5 of Sri Arunachala Nava Mani Malai.  He says:  ....'Karaana
Karunai vizhi koduppai inrel, kadum bhavathin inru karai era
matten..."  Unless you give your graceful eyes, I cannot cross
the ocean of birth and death....  How good is this Grace of Arunachala?  It is like a mother's love of the baby, unasked,
unquestionable and tireless and permanent Grace!  'Ner anathu
undo thai sisuvukku atrum nikar atra nalanukku....

Arunachala is the Mother, the Father, the Lover for Bhagavan Ramana and also for all of us.

Hence He starts the Arunachala Pancharatnam with Grace aspect
of the Self or Brahman.

Arunachala Siva.
