Guru Poornima Day - 2009
« on: July 07, 2009, 11:49:23 AM »
Today the Guru Poornima is celebrated as per lunar calendar.
It is the Ashada Pournami Day.  As per Tamil solar calendar,
it is celebrated on 5th August 2009. {Sri Ramanasramam
celebrates on this day}.

This is also called Vyasa Poornima.  Vyasaya Vishnu roopaya...
Vyasa is also Vishnu, Narayana and Narayana is the first
guru.  Sri Dakshinamoorthy is the primordial guru from whom
the Sanaka rishis, four of them took teachings in total silence.
But in practice, the Guru is taken as Vyasa, who took lessons
from Sanaka and others.  Of course, Suka, Narada are also there.
But starting from Vyasa, all gurus are prayed today and given
our thanks and gratitude.

Now, how to give our thanks to Guru?

1. By physically serving him, if you are with him.
2. Or praying to him and contemplating on his form particularly
     his feet on this day.
3.  Placing flowers or flower garlands on his picture or
4.  Or, chanting the mantra given by him, Arunachala Siva.....
5.  Or reading his life history, his books etc.,

Arunachala Siva.
