Darshan of the Frozen Fire - 3
« on: July 04, 2009, 12:01:21 PM »
On 2nd July 2009, Thursday, we went for Giri pradakshina,
after breakfast.  The pradakshina was as usual mostly
in car and a little bit on foot.  This time, I decided to visit
some of the Ashta Lingams in detail.  We went to Niruthi Lingam.  Niruthi is one of the grandsons of Brahma, who is
also the god for demons and devils and he is usually prayed
by magicians for black magic and causing some dangers to
someone else.  This Niruthi came to Arunachaleswara and prayed:  "Please make me one of the 8 lingas around your Hill and let me do the retribution for being  god of black magics.  And
I also pray to you to make your Holy Ashes, as the only medicine for black magic cures."  Arunachaleswara agreed.  In Niruthi
Lingam Shrine, they give prasad of holy ashes to be preserved
by devotees to ward off themselves against black magic.

In the giri pradakshina, I also went to the Manikkavachagar's
Shrine near Adi Annamalai, the Foot Hill Annamalai.  The shrine
of Manikkavachagar is quite small and there is a stone image of the saint.  The small temple is well maintained.  This is the place, from where Manikkavachagar had the sight of Hill as tall column of effulgence and then sang the early morning song of Tiruvembavai and Tiru Ammanai, in all 20 verses in Tiruvachakam.

This time too, I went to Isanya Desikar Math but the shrine was
closed, perhaps due to illness of the old priest.  We completed
pradakshina, bought some peanuts for monkeys and peacocks
and came back to the Asramam around 11.30 pm.  After lunch,
we spent sometime in the book shop.  Sri Venkatesan the bookstall employee told us that Nochur Venkatraman had given a ten day discourse on Sad Darsanam earlier in 2007 and this has been brought out by audio CDs by Venkatramana himself for sale in the Asramam.  He said that a pack of 4 CDs are sold for
Rs 300/- and the small profit coming out of it are given to Nochur Venkatraman.  He promised to get me the CDs next day.  He also said that the following CDS are available, all by Nochur
Venkatraman, and the sale will start next day.
