Guru Gita - 4

Brahma Jnana, which resides in the Guru's face, is
obtained only through his bestowal.  We have seen
many devotees who had Bhagavan Ramana's darshan
and His gaze, with eyes like burning coals.  Many questions
which were to be asked by devotees had been answered
by this gaze and His inscrutable silence.  Paul Brunton came
back to his room, without any questions.  Swami Chinmayananda, who was earlier Balakrishna Menon, had
said that Bhagavan Ramana's look for a few minutes were
more than what he had later learnt as Upanishad Pata in
Uttarakasi!  Muruganar sings in Tiru KaN Nokkam, the Look
of His divine eyes, in Sri Ramana Sannidhi Murai.  In fact,
Sanskrit has no word for 'mouth'.  Face is the word, mukam,
is used for 'mouth' also.  There is no need for a Brahma Jnani
to utter anything from his mouth.  His face is the Word. His
Silence is the Word. 

Verse 40, line 1 says:

Guru vaktre sthitam brahma prapyate tat prsadatah.

"Brahma Jnana, which resides in the Guru's face, is
obtained only through his bestowal.

Verse 77 of Guru Gita:-

Naguroradhikam tattvam nagurudathikam tapah 
Naguroradhikam jnanam tasmai sri guruve namah:

"There is no essence greater than the Guru.  There is
no penance greater than the Guru.  There is no knowledge
greater than the Guru.  To such a Guru, my obeisance."

Verse 39 of Guru Gita:-

This answers an important point, the key to Brahma Jnana.  Surrender.  The extent of surrender that is expected of the disciple is brought out vividly in this verse. 

"One should always keep the Guru's form in mind.  Should
always do Japa of the Guru's name.  Should carry out the
Guru's orders and should not think of anything other than
Guru."

One cannot find a better example than Hanuman, for keeping
the Guru's form in mind and for doing  japa of  Guru's name.
He always held Sita-Rama in his mind, [heart]. He had always
had Sita-Rama's name on his lips.  Muruganar, Kunju Swamigal,
and Lakshman Sarma were always chanting Om Namo Bhagavate Sri Ramanaya Namah.  Carrying out the Guru's
orders.  One cannot find a better example than Annamalai
Swami.  Annamalai Swami did all that Bhagavan Ramana wanted
him to do.  Be it buildings or small dams [rakshanai, which
you can see even today at the back of Sri Ramanasramam, behind Cow Lakshmi's Samadhi], or other constructions.
Every building inside the Asramam today speak of glories
of Annamalai Swami.

Verse 111 of Guru Gita:-

Guru is non dual.  But he is dual and has to be so, till
your surrender becomes total.  Once Mayurice Frydman
asked Bhagavan Ramana:  "If everything is non dual,
then why not I sit with you on the sofa?"  Bhagavan Ramana
smiled and said:  "Why not?  You can sit even now."  Then
Maurice Frydman said:  "O Bhagavan!  If I sit now, I shall
be lynched by everyone here and I cannot even go away
in one piece!"  Bhagavan Ramana said: "Why did you worry
about them?  If you are 'ready' you can sit with me!"

Brahmanandam parama sukhadam kevalam jnana-murtim,
Dvandvatitam gagana-sadirsam tattvamasyadi-lakshyam,
Ekam nityam vimalamachalam sarvadhi-sakshi-bhutam,
Bhavatitam triguna-rahitam sadgurum tam namami.

The Guru is Supreme Bliss, bestower of ecstatic happiness,
the Absolute, the embodiment of Jnana, beyond duality,
in purity of the likeness of Space, the objective of the
teaching of Mahavakyas like Tat Tvam Asi, the One, the
Eternal, free from evil, immovable from his state of Jnana,
witness to the intellects of all beings, beyond thought,
and devoid of the three gunas.  To such a Guru, I offer
my obeisance.
