« on: July 21, 2008, 01:29:25 PM »
Annapoorna Ashtakam, is an eight-verse composition of
Sankara, euologizing Annapoorna the goddess and consort
of Siva in Kasi.  A sample,

Verse 1, " O benign Mother, who pourest out upon us,
everlasting bliss,
Thou, the Ocean of Beauty!  Bestower of boonss and of fearlessness,
O Supreme Purifier, who washes away all sins,
Thou the visible Ruler of the world, the sanctifier of King
Himalaya's lineage,
O Thou the Queen Empress of holy Kasi, Divine Annapoorna!
Be gracious unto me and grant me alms."

Verse 4, " O Gauri, O Uma, O Sankari, O Kaumari,
Thou who hast thy dwelling in the cave of sacred Mount Kailas,
Thou who dost reveal the meaning of the holy Vedas,
Who art very embodiment of the mystic syllable Om,
Who openest the gates of liberation!
O Thou the Queen Empress of holy Kasi, Divine Annapoorna!
Be gracious unto me and grant me alms."

The 'alms' symbolizes self-realization.
