Dr.T.M.P. Mahadevan got his doctorate in Philosphy in 1937 and
was Head of the Department of Philosphy in Pachaiyappa's College,
Madras, from 1937 to 1947.  He was later the Head of Advanced
Institute of Philosophy in the University of Madras and further became the Director of the Institute.  After 50 years of service,
he became the National Professor in 1982.  He was awarded Padma
Bhushan by the Indian Government.   He is the author of nearly 50 books on philosophy. 

He was attracted to Bhagavan Ramana during his years in the
College and University.  He has given a lucid English rendering of
ULLadu Narpadu, Sad Darsanam, of Bhagavan Ramana.  He was
also closely associated with Kanchi Math during the years of Sri
Chandrasekhara Saraswati.  He also became the President of Adi
Sankara Research Centre in Advaita Vedanta.

He died on 5th November 1983 at Madras when he was 72.
