Pilgrimage to Hill of Fire - April-May 2009 - 1
« on: May 03, 2009, 10:51:52 AM »
I visited Tiruvannamalai between 29th April and 2nd May 2009.
I reached around 10 am on 29th April 2009.  I checked in Morvi
Guest House allotted.  The temperature was 40 degrees C,
simmering hot, but better than certain parts of Andhra Pradesh
and Orissa!  The Hill of Fire, really looked like a tall flame.
Fortuanately, there were no power cuts inside the Asramam,
due to in house generators for all places.  There were a few
special things as usual this time too, as there were before.

The first was on 30th April.  I had arranged for bhiksha for
sadhus and alms-seekers.  I had also arranged for giving
dhotis and upper clothes for Veda patasala students and
teachers.  But there were also pleasant things from outside too.
The Vedapatasala teacher was performing Upanayana for his
cute little son, five years old, with a long name Gouri Shankar
Chandrasekhara Virupaksha.  The little boy was looking like
Sankara himself as we have seen in photographs.  The function
was simple but all rituals were observed.  Not only the boy's
relatives but the visitors too enjoyed the function and gave him
good gifts.  There was a good lunch on that day arranged by the
teacher himself.   In the afternoon, around 3 pm, there was a
Panduranga bhajan in the Jubilee Hall (the front hall of Mother's
Temple) which was ecstatic.  The Asramam accommodated this,
by cancelling the book reading session, between 3 pm and 4.30 pm.

In the evening, I and my wife attended the Tamil Parayana session
in full, for the first time.  After dinner we returned to the guest house, with heat not yet subsiding.

Arunachala Siva.
